The Test Cell Operator at GMPPU plays a critical role in executing engine, powertrain, and component testing within a high-performance development environment. This position requires hands-on technical expertise, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to operate advanced test systems independently. The ideal candidate will have a background in motorsports or high-performance engineering and be proficient in AVL PUMA and related test automation tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret and execute test requirements as defined by lead engineers.
- Collaborate with test cell engineers and technicians to meet testing objectives.
- Install engines, gearboxes, and associated components into test cells.
- Design and fabricate custom tooling and fixtures for unique test setups.
- Operate test cells and support equipment independently, ensuring compliance with company standards.
- Troubleshoot issues with test units or cell equipment and implement corrective actions.
- Document and report test data clearly and accurately.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Maintain and optimize test cell equipment and procedures.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols during all testing operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, or Software Engineering.
- Proven experience in engine, powertrain, or component testing.
- Strong mechanical and electrical assembly skills.
- Experience operating engine or powertrain dyno test cells.
- Advanced knowledge of AVL PUMA, Indicom, Concerto.
- Familiarity with instrumentation systems, sensors, and electronics.
- Understanding of engine, transmission, and driveline control systems.
- Experience with SysMon, Atlas, IGEM, Matlab, ASAP.
- Ability to translate UUT (Unit Under Test) requirements into test routines and automation scripts.
- Skilled in data acquisition and engine management systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced development environment.
- Flexible to work extended hours or various shifts as needed.
- Background in top-class level racing or high-performance automotive testing is highly desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience creating and standardizing parameter sets, test scripts, and automation tools across test fields.
- Ability to analyze complex data sets to diagnose faults and optimize performance.
