GM Performance Power Units (GMPPU) is seeking a skilled and motivated Inventory Control Specialist to join the Warehouse and Logistics Team. This role will be responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records, monitoring stock levels, and ensuring efficient inventory management processes for the department. This role plays a critical part in supporting warehouse operations, production, and assembly operations, minimising inventory discrepancies, and optimising inventory flow to meet organisational goals at GMPPU.

This position involves conducting cycle counts, monitoring inventory locations and levels, maintaining safety stock, and initiating reorders for products and supplies as needed. It encompasses transaction management, inventory oversight, and auditing responsibilities. Additional duties include transacting and overseeing the flow of parts, spares, and equipment/tooling, managing inventory and storage areas within the department, analysing inventory, and establishing protocols to minimise loss.

This position requires high attention to detail and a deep understanding of inventory control, management, and material flow in a high-performance engineering environment and is a critical support function for the manufacturing, assembly, and development of our Formula 1 power unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform regular cycle counts/audits and reconcile discrepancies within the Warehouse and Logistics department.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records in the ERP/WMS.
  • Monitor inventory levels, identify and adjudicate shortages or excesses.
  • Coordinate with purchasing and warehouse teams to ensure timely replenishment of inventory parts and spares.
  • Coordinate with purchasing, warehouse, and manufacturing teams to optimise inventory flow, inventory storage, and resolve any issues related to stock levels.
  • Develop and implement best practices for inventory control.
  • Optimise storage and handling procedures to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Generate detailed reports on inventory status, track key performance metrics, and provide insights for decision-making.
  • Analyse trends and recommend adjustments to inventory and reporting policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organised inventory area in compliance with safety standards.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of warehousing and logistical processes and documentation standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in inventory management and control, warehouse management, or related role.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and supply chain methodologies, ideally within a high-performance or precision-engineering environment.
  • Familiarity with ERP, WMS, or inventory management systems (Experience with IFS Cloud is a plus).
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, and organisational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, ability to work in a team, important for collaborating with various departments and addressing inventory-related issues.
  • Self-driven with a proactive approach to process development, continuous improvement, and learning.
  • Prior experience operating a forklift or the ability to pass a Forklift certification and the ability to safely operate material handling equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, or related field.
  • Experience in production and manufacturing setting or within motorsports or high-performance environments.
  • Prior involvement in continuous/process improvement (LEAN, Six Sigma, or continuous cost improvement).
  • Familiarity with business intelligence/reporting tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau) for inventory analysis.
  • Familiarity with FIA regulations and cost cap reporting.
