We are seeking an Energy Storage (ES) Battery Test Engineer to own the execution and continuous improvement of our battery test activities across cells, modules, and packs. You will translate test requirements into robust setups, operate and refine test rigs, and ensure high-quality data delivery to support rapid design and validation cycles. This role is hands-on and lab-focused, working closely with engineers, technicians, and external suppliers to develop tooling, automate test procedures, and troubleshoot issues in a dynamic, high-performance development environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and execute test requirements as defined by lead engineers.
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians to meet testing objectives.
- Install battery packs, modules, and cells for testing.
- Design and fabricate custom tooling and fixtures for unique test setups.
- Operate test cells and support equipment independently, ensuring compliance with company standards.
- Troubleshoot issues with test units and equipment to implement corrective actions.
- Document and report test data clearly and accurately.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Maintain and optimize test equipment and procedures.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols during all testing operations.
- Organize and lead work with outside suppliers as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or other related engineering field with 2+ years of experience in battery pack, module, and/or cell testing.
- Familiarity with instrumentation systems, sensors, and electronics.
- Skilled in data acquisition.
- Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced development environment.
- Flexible to work extended hours or various shifts as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in top-tier racing or high-performance automotive testing.
- Proficiency in CAD (NX preferred).
- Experience creating and standardizing parameter sets, test scripts, and automation tools across test fields.
- Ability to analyze complex data sets to diagnose faults and optimize performance.
- Programming experience (Python/MATLAB preferred).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
- Familiarity with safe operation with and around High Voltage (HV) systems. HV training certification preferred.
