ES Lead Engineer - Onsite

Position Overview: Engineer the Future of Formula 1 Performance with GM PPU! GM PPU is seeking an experienced ES Lead Engineer to join our innovative team in Concord, NC. In this mission-critical role, you’ll push the boundaries of hybrid powertrain optimization to ensure our cars achieve peak performance in the world’s most intense racing environment — Formula 1.
As part of our relentless pursuit of excellence, you\'ll be at the forefront of innovation, leveraging cutting-edge technology to extract every ounce of performance from our power units. Your expertise will be instrumental in developing race-winning strategies that optimize energy recovery and deployment, giving our cars a competitive edge in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Key Responsibilities:
• Design & Optimization: Design and optimize ES components, focusing on efficiency and performance within FIA regulations.
• Strategy Development: Develop and refine control strategies for energy recovery and deployment.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with powertrain and vehicle dynamics teams to integrate ES with other power unit systems.
• Performance Analytics: Analyze ES performance data and implement improvements to enhance overall power unit efficiency and reliability.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure ES design and operation comply with FIA regulations, including weight limits and energy deployment restrictions.
• Thermal Management: Develop strategies to optimize ES thermal performance and longevity
• Track-Side Support: Participate in track testing and race weekend operations to support MGU performance.
• Performance Strategy: Work closely with drivers and race engineers to optimize ES energy deployment and recovery strategies for different circuits and race conditions.

Qualifications:
• Education: Master\'s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in motorsport, preferably in Formula 1, Formula-E, or other hybrid or EV-based high-performance racing series.
• Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery technology, power electronics, and control systems.
• Simulation Expertise: Experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink for energy system modeling and optimization.
• Analytical Capabilities: Strong capability in data analysis and performance modeling of complex electromechanical systems.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Thorough understanding of FIA technical regulations pertaining to energy recovery systems.

• Advanced knowledge of MGU systems and their integration with F1 hybrid power units.
