Additive Manufacturing Design Lead - Onsite
Position Overview
The Additive Manufacturing Design Lead will serve as the subject-matter expert in Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM). This role will be responsible for establishing design standards, mentoring engineering staff, and ensuring optimal use of AM technologies for performance-critical components. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader with deep knowledge of additive processes, design workflows, and prototyping strategies.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain AM design guides and rules, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and company performance goals.
• Train and mentor engineers and drafters in DfAM methods, principles, and workflows.
• Manage component-level AM projects, collaborating with responsible engineers to determine optimal orientations, support strategies, and build considerations.
• Provide rapid prototyping support, utilizing in-house printing capabilities or leveraging third-party service providers when needed.
• Oversee AM design workflows, enforcing adherence to DfAM standards and driving continuous improvement.
• Act as a technical liaison, interfacing between design, manufacturing, and external partners to ensure successful delivery of AM parts.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in design engineering, with demonstrated expertise in laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) DfAM.
• Proficiency in CAD software (Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or equivalent).
• Experience with AM preparation software such as 3DXpert, Materialise Magics, or equivalent.
• Strong project management skills with proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
• Effective technical communication and training skills.
• Knowledge of rapid prototyping techniques and workflows.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with polymer-based additive manufacturing in addition to metals.
• Background in motorsports, aerospace, or high-performance engineering applications.
• Familiarity with design validation tools such as FEA or topology optimization.
