Responsibilities include:
- Preparing the clinical areas to provide a safe and clean environment for patients and staff by ensuring that equipment and furniture are cleaned and used correctly.
- Explaining procedures and tests to patients; offering post-procedural advice and advice on how to obtain test results.
- Providing asymptomatic screening to patients.
- Undertaking venepuncture.
- Assisting in the management of notifying patients of negative results using Sunrise / ICE and Lilie (our electronic patient record) within the direction of the HCA Health Advising competency document, and the Standard Operating Procedure: Health Advising Team: Results Management.
- Assisting the doctor/nurse and providing support for patients during the fitting of intrauterine devices, the fitting and removal of Subdermal Implants in general clinics and our specialist complex contraception clinics.
- Assisting with minor operations and procedures across both Integrated Sexual Health and the Pregnancy Advisory Service.
- Undertaking microscopy (reading of slides) for the diagnosis of infection.
- Acting as a chaperone according to trust policy.
- Undertaking clinical observations including blood pressures, temperatures, pulse, urinalysis and pregnancy testing.
- Utilising point of care testing if indicated.
The Sexual Health Service provides sexual health care to people throughout the county of Gloucestershire. The service provides sexual health screening and treatment, contraception, pregnancy advisory, and HIV care and treatment. The service currently operates Monday to Friday from 08:00 Hours to 20:00 Hours; flexible working and occasional weekends may be required if the demand for our services changes.
We work in close collaboration with colleagues in (but not limited to) Primary Care, the Hospitals Trust, Social Care, Edystone Trust and other non-statutory organisations.
