Role and Responsibilities

As part of the Specialist Teaching and Educational Psychology Service (STEPS), the Head of Advisory Teaching holds a key leadership position within the local authority. The role involves overseeing a team of advisory teachers who provide specialist support to schools, with a strong focus on special educational needs (SEN) and inclusion. The aim is to improve teaching and learning outcomes for children and young people across Gloucestershire.Reporting to the Head of STEPS, the postholder will play a central role in guiding the wider STEPS service, with responsibility for the Advisory Teaching Service. The role includes strategic leadership of the Specialist Teaching and Educational Psychology Service, driving forward plans that enhance educational support and outcomes. It also involves managing a team of advisory teachers and sensory impairment specialists, ensuring their work is impactful and aligned with service goals.Collaboration is a key aspect of the role, requiring close working relationships with schools, parents, local agencies, and professionals to deliver joined-up support.
