Are you passionate about the environment, keen to provide excellent customer service to the residents of Gloucester, have the ability to manage a busy workload and have excellent communication skills? We are looking for a person to join our Waste, Recycling and Streetscene team in a job share post working 18.5 hours a week. Primarily you will be responsible for encouraging residents to reduce waste and increase the amount they recycle. You will also be part of a team who ensures that services are operated effectively and efficiently.

About the Job

This role is one of a number of posts in our Waste Recycling and Streetscene team, based at our office in Eastern Avenue. The team is responsible for core environmental services such as waste, recycling, street cleaning, grounds maintenance and the public open spaces in our countryside sites. Although you will primarily deal with waste, recycling and street cleaning services, there will occasionally be opportunities to be involved in other projects relating to parks and open spaces. We offer flexible working with a hybrid working system which allows you to work at home and in the office at Eastern Avenue. We have an office day each week where all of the team are in the office and we all have our own desk.

What we need you to do:

  • Provide project management support to the service across large scale projects
  • Respond effectively to requests for service and complaints
  • Develop relationships with community groups, Members, partners and a range of stakeholders
  • Draft communications relating to projects for the Council's website and social media pages
  • Effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders both face to face and in writing
  • Manage a busy workload
  • Have a "can do" attitude, with the ability to find solutions to problems
  • Maintain and develop constructive relationships as part of a collaborative working environment
  • Consider the financial implications of any activities affecting the use of council funds, seeking best value for money and identifying or recommending more cost-effective options.

It is a legal requirement, under the Immigration Act 2016, that anyone appointed to a 'customer facing role' must be able to demonstrate an ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in fluent English.
