We are committed to improving outcomes for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and are investing in our services to meet local needs effectively. Our Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) service plays a vital role in supporting children and young people who require additional help to achieve their potential.

Leadership opportunities:

  • Resolution Team Lead — oversee a team managing mediation and SENDIST Tribunal appeals, ensuring fair and timely resolution of disputes.
  • EHCP Area Lead – Annual Review Team — lead a team responsible for maintaining accurate EHCPs following annual reviews, supporting phase transfers, and preparing young people for adulthood.

In both roles, you will work collaboratively with education providers and build strong partnerships across education, health, and social care. Children and young people are at the heart of everything we do, and you will engage directly with them and their families to ensure access to inclusive, high-quality education.

This position is subject to a DBS check. The council is not currently able to offer sponsorship in this role. Requirements:

  • Leadership and Communication Skills — Ability to lead teams effectively and work co-productively with professionals, families, and young people.
  • Expert Knowledge of SEND Legislation — A thorough understanding of the Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice and the practical application.
  • Empathy and Problem-Solving — Sensitivity to the challenges faced by children and families, with the ability to develop creative solutions.
  • Experience in EHCP Assessment and Review — Highly competent in assessing and reviewing the needs of vulnerable children and young people.
