About Us

This is a great time to be part of Gloucestershire County Council, as Children’s Social Care is on an exciting journey, which focuses our approach into being more creative, strengths-based and person-centred, to ensure that we work together to ‘Make a Difference’ to our local communities. We are an agile working organisation with a combination of office-based working and working from home (essential equipment is provided). We place a high premium on diversity and inclusion, as well as on health and wellbeing and we offer a flexible working scheme which is based on business need. We offer Continued Professional Development and will support you to develop your skills and career prospects within Children’s Services.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Business Support manager to join us on a part time (22 hours per week) basis as a Business Administration Lead in Children’s Social Care. The successful candidate will lead the Business Support function within the newly formed Early Intervention and Community Team. The team will lead a joint approach from Education and Children and Families Community Early Help and will enable Early Years Development and SEND Practitioners, Outcome Coordinators, Early Help Coordinators and Community Social Workers to ensure children requiring more than universal support are responded to effectively at the earliest stage. As a Business Administration Lead, you will work closely with the Service Managers and Head of Service to support the new teams to deliver the targeted support aspects of the council’s “Support First” approach to attendance at Education settings.

Duties will include:

  • Allocation of workload
  • Regular supervision and performance reviews with members of your team
  • Performance management
  • Regular attendance at Leadership and Management meetings
  • Facilitating regular team meetings and huddles
  • Review and development of processes

About You

You will have proven leadership skills and evidence of strong oversight of process and performance. The role involves direct line management of a small team of two Business Administrators who are based at different council buildings across the county, therefore, the ability to travel to countywide locations is essential. You will have strong IT and communication skills and be able to demonstrate a flexible approach with an ability to manage your workload to meet deadlines.

In return we will offer you:

  • Regular formal and informal support.
  • Safe, supportive and positive working environment with regular, robust supervision.
  • Access to relevant training and career progression.
  • Annual leave of 25.5 days (pro rata) up to 30.5 days (pro rata) after 5 years employment.
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Staff discount scheme that offers access to great savings including discounts with major supermarket chains and high street retailers.
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) that provides free, confidential, counselling and advice for employees, available 24 hours a day, online and by telephone.
  • Cycle to Work scheme.
  • Links to employee networks such as Prism (LGBT+) network and the Young Employees Network.
  • Gloucestershire Salary Sacrifice Green Car Scheme (T&C's apply).

Working in Children’s Social Care does require an applicant who can be proactive or responsive to changing demands and resilient to some of the tough emotional content of the role. However, it is also a role that can bring great reward and job satisfaction.
