Responsibilities

As a Watch Manager in Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, you will work to the NJC role map for Watch Manager (Control) and be a key member of the Service’s Leadership Team. You must be an inspirational, forward‑thinking and innovative leader with a strong focus on community outcomes. You should inspire individuals and teams to deliver continuous improvement, engaging with a wide range of partners to ensure that Gloucestershire County Council coordinates and maximises the potential of all public services across the county. You need to be highly motivated to drive an agenda of transformational change that ensures GFRS maximises every opportunity to improve community safety and emergency response services. The role requires an innovative and creative problem‑solver who can take people on a journey of improvement, encouraging progressive, resilient decision‑making at the right level and supporting true empowerment culture.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applications welcome from grey book competent crew managers or above. Commitment to the values of the service and council is essential. Candidates must have a right to work in the UK that allows at least six months of employment; this right is not transferable from a sponsored role at another employer. Ability to demonstrate fluent English in all spoken aspects of a customer‑facing role is mandatory. All candidates must be subject to an enhanced DBS check. The role is subject to the NJC Scheme of Conditions of Service Sixth Edition 2004 (updated 2009).
