We are recruiting a Professional Standards Adviser to join the Professional Standards Department within Gloucestershire Constabulary. This 12‑month fixed‑term contract is a job‑share role sharing 18.5 hours per week – Wednesday (pm), Thursday and Friday full days – with flexibility to work additional hours as required during busy periods or to cover annual leave.

This unique role requires a robust professional who can question the decisions of others, provide guidance and advice, work to tight deadlines, and demonstrate a proven ability to understand complex legislation and help shape new processes. You will also need to write complex, legally‑based letters and ideally possess some knowledge of police complaints and misconduct legislation or procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare files on behalf of the Appropriate Authority for police misconduct proceedings, working with Legally Qualified Chairs, Barristers and senior police officers.
  • Produce evidential bundles to an exceptionally high standard and liaise with the legally qualified chair.
  • Oversee the database that holds all public complaint and misconduct data.
  • Work to deadlines, exercising effective time‑management and organisational skills, and paying attention to the smallest of details.
  • Provide guidance and advice on complicated legislation about complaints and misconduct.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to understand complex legislation concerning complaints and misconduct.
  • Experience in producing evidence bundles and writing complex, legally‑based letters.
  • Knowledge of police complaints and misconduct legislation or procedures is desirable.
  • Veteran at level Staff MV – requiring at least five years of residency in the UK.
