We have an exciting opportunity for a Housing Team Leader to join our Housing Services Team, focusing on Part 6 Allocations of the Housing Act to lead frontline delivery of statutory housing service within a fast‑paced and challenging operational environment, passionate about delivering person‑centred, trauma‑informed support.

You will be responsible for overseeing allocations policy implementation, managing the Choice Based Lettings (CBL) process, and leading a team delivering fair, transparent and legally compliant access to social housing. Importantly you will work collaboratively with Registered Providers of Social Housing. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the integrity of the allocations system while balancing housing need, demand pressures and customer expectations.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Oversee allocations policy implementation
  • Manage the Choice Based Lettings (CBL) process
  • Lead a team delivering fair, transparent and legally compliant access to social housing
  • Collaborate with Registered Providers of Social Housing
  • Ensure integrity of the allocations system while balancing housing need, demand pressures and customer expectations

Requirements

  • Understanding and knowledge of the housing legislative and regulatory framework
  • Strong experience in allocations, Choice Based Lettings (CBL) and housing register either in a local government setting or registered provider
  • Sound understanding of allocations law, policy and best practice
  • Proven people management experience
  • Confidence dealing with sensitive, complex and contested cases
  • Ability to coach and support team members to grow in confidence, resilience, and skill
  • Excellent communication, judgement and organisational skills
  • Leads with empathy, communicates clearly, and enjoys working creatively to help people overcome challenges

Right to Work

The council is not currently able to offer sponsorship in this role. Candidates will need to have right to work that enables them to commit to at least 6 months employment. Right to work is not transferable from a sponsored role held with another employer.
