Employment details

  • Full-time 35 hours per week, up to 12 month temporary contract.
  • For the right candidate we are open to flexible working terms.
  • Salary: Band 2 £49,534 per annum.

Overview

This is a hugely exciting opportunity to join Gloucester Cathedral as it enters a key period of development. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and highly skilled individual to oversee our small but busy fundraising function, helping to develop and implement our Fundraising Strategy, embed the newly implemented CRM system (Beacon) and deliver the Cathedral’s Operational Plan. You will oversee the breadth of our Fundraising and Development activities, including the day-to-day running of the team, delivering our In Tune Campaign and Cloisters Project, and managing a portfolio of high‑value donors. You will also play an instrumental role in further developing new relationships with major donors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the fundraising function, delivering the Cathedral’s Fundraising Strategy and major campaigns.
  • Embed and optimise the Beacon CRM system across fundraising activities.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the fundraising team and manage a portfolio of high-value donors.
  • Deliver major campaigns (e.g., In Tune Campaign and Cloisters Project) and grow income from core donors and major gifts.
  • Build and nurture relationships with donors, supporters, and partners; ensure exceptional donor care.
  • Collaborate with cathedral teams (Music, Clergy, Learning & Participation) to foster cross-functional engagement.
  • Contribute to the Cathedral Leadership Team to realise strategic objectives and uphold welcome values in donor engagement.

Qualifications and qualities

  • At least five years’ experience in a charity, heritage, arts or visitor attractions leadership role with a proven track record of securing and growing income, and delivering large-scale fundraising campaigns with major donors.
  • Experience of line-managing and leading a staff team at a senior level.
  • Excellent time management and the ability to balance numerous priorities and deadlines.
  • A genuine passion for exceptional donor care and building meaningful relationships.
