Role Description

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining Global Sign’s industry-leading on-prem and cloud-based (“hybrid”) architecture, ensuring the highest standards of availability and security are met while continuously looking to improve the platform.

Using orchestration tools and custom scripting to automate tasks wherever possible, we strive for a “fix once” attitude to problem resolution and deployment of new systems.

  • Job Responsibilities
  • Managing, monitoring and maintaining Global Sign’s cloud-based and “Paa S” architecture, ensuring systems are in place for security and cost management as well as logging and alerting.
  • Developing and maintaining scripts and tooling for managing the lifecycle of Global Sign’s in-house developed architecture, including:
  • Ensuring monitoring and logging are in place
  • Ensuring security best practices are followed
  • Automating of patching and update cycles where appropriate
  • Working with the Development team to manage deployments, and with the Architecture team to ensure that new systems are designed and developed in line with best practice, discussing the pros and cons of proposed approaches to new systems and databases.
  • Delivering tooling for managing shared systems (databases, build and deployment).
  • Comply with company policies and procedures, including but not limited to information security and acceptable use, and for undertaking mandatory in-house company training and surveys as required.
  • Undertake other job responsibilities and accountabilities within the remit of the job role as and when these may arise.

Person Specification

  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills in English, sufficient to perform the duties of the role effectively.
  • Extensive experience with orchestration and deployment tools (e. g. Terraform, Jenkins).
  • Expert-level troubleshooting and system administration skills (Linux administration, general network troubleshooting).
  • Extensive experience with cloud-based architectures, including supporting systems, and AWS technologies such as Lambda, RDS, SQS, Cloud Watch, etc.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience with the following technologies:
  • Databases (SQL and/or No SQL)
  • Networking (TCP/IP, subnetting/VLANs, firewalling and basic routing principles)
  • Message Queues (e. g. Rabbit MQ, Kafka).
  • Applies analytical and critical thinking to support decision-making, while developing and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong technical documentation skills with good attention to detail.
  • Shows a proactive and motivated approach to work.
  • Uses creative problem-solving skills to address challenges.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience. Engineering or related discipline highly preferred.
