About the Opportunity

Our client, a leading infrastructure and utilities organisation, is seeking an experienced SHESQ Manager to support the delivery of a major 132kV power infrastructure project in the Suffolk area.

This is a standalone site-based role offering the opportunity to take ownership of SHESQ performance across a significant cable route and ducting project from inception through to completion. The successful candidate will provide visible leadership, drive a positive safety culture, and ensure compliance with company, client, and legislative requirements.

This role is ideally suited to an experienced SHESQ professional who enjoys autonomy, strong site engagement, and making a direct impact on project performance.

Key Responsibilities

SHESQ Leadership & Compliance

  • Lead all Safety, Health, Environmental, Sustainability, and Quality (SHESQ) activities across a major 132kV infrastructure project.
  • Act as the primary SHESQ representative on site, supporting project teams, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through visible leadership and proactive engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, client standards, and statutory requirements.

Audits, Inspections & Assurance

  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and assurance activities.
  • Monitor compliance with risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Support project teams in maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational performance.

Incident Investigation & Continuous Improvement

  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and non-conformances.
  • Undertake root cause analysis and ensure lessons learned are communicated and embedded.
  • Monitor SHESQ performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Produce regular reports and recommendations for project leadership teams.

Training & Operational Support

  • Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, SHEQ briefings, and awareness initiatives.
  • Support the development and review of project SHEQ plans.
  • Provide practical guidance on risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Build strong relationships across all project stakeholders to encourage safe and compliant working practices.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Previous experience in a SHEQ Manager, Senior SHEQ Advisor, SHEQ Advisor, HSQE Advisor, or HSE Advisor role.
  • Proven experience within power, utilities, construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, or engineering environments.
  • Demonstrable experience on HV/LV electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Previous involvement in cable installation, ducting, power, or electrical infrastructure works.
  • Experience working within live construction or infrastructure project environments.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent health and safety qualification.
  • IOSH Membership or actively working towards professional membership.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage SHESQ activities within a standalone role.
  • Full UK Driver's Licence.

Desirable

  • Experience working on 132kV, HV, EHV, transmission, or substation projects.
  • Knowledge of principal contractor responsibilities and project delivery environments.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining ISO management systems.
  • Environmental qualifications such as IEMA.
  • Utilities, water, or energy infrastructure experience.
  • Engineering, military, or technical background.
