About the Opportunity

Our client, a leading organisation within the infrastructure and energy sector, is expanding its SHEQ function and is seeking experienced SHEQ Advisors and Senior SHEQ Advisors to support projects and operational teams across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and utility works.

These roles are responsible for delivering practical SHEQ support and assurance across projects, contracts, and operational environments. Successful candidates will work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Supervisors, and operational teams to ensure the highest standards of Safety, Health, Environment, Sustainability, and Quality are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

SHEQ Assurance & Compliance

  • Deliver planned SHEQ assurance activities, audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
  • Support the implementation of SHESQ management systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify potential risks and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.
  • Support corrective and preventative action programmes and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote compliance with company standards, client requirements, and applicable legislation.

Operational Support & Risk Management

  • Provide practical SHEQ guidance and support to Project Managers, Site Managers, Supervisors, and operational teams.
  • Assist with the development and review of risk assessments, method statements, SHEQ plans, and Construction Phase Plans.
  • Support project mobilisation, tenders, bids, PQQs, and new contract start-ups.
  • Monitor operational activities to ensure effective risk management and safe working practices.

Training, Coaching & Culture

  • Deliver SHEQ inductions, toolbox talks, communications, and awareness initiatives.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and engagement activities.
  • Support workforce consultation and employee involvement programmes.
  • Senior-level candidates may provide leadership, mentoring, and development support to junior SHEQ professionals.

Auditing & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct internal audits, inspections, and assurance reviews.
  • Monitor SHEQ performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Contribute to business-wide SHEQ improvement campaigns and initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

SHEQ Advisor

  • NEBOSH Certificate, NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards), or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience within a SHEQ, HSEQ, or Health & Safety role in infrastructure, utilities, construction, energy, or engineering sectors.
  • Knowledge of UK health, safety, environmental, and quality legislation.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Full UK Driver's Licence and willingness to travel.

Senior SHEQ Advisor

In addition to the above:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Technical Membership of IOSH, ISEP, or equivalent professional body.
  • Experience leading audits, investigations, and SHEQ improvement programmes.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, and supporting junior SHEQ personnel.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and integrated management systems.
  • Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor qualification and experience.

Desirable

  • Environmental or Quality Management qualifications.
  • Experience within utilities, water, energy, civil engineering, or infrastructure sectors.
  • ILM Level 4 or equivalent leadership qualification.
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and Construction Phase Planning.
  • Experience supporting major infrastructure projects and operational environments.
