About the Opportunity

Our client, a leading engineering and infrastructure organisation, is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team delivering innovative water and wastewater projects across the UK and internationally.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges, leading project delivery, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design and delivery of sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure solutions within a fast-paced Design & Build environment.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:

  • Lead and contribute to the delivery of water and wastewater engineering projects from concept through to completion.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors, and clients to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Produce and review engineering calculations, technical reports, drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Ensure engineering solutions comply with UK and international standards, regulations, and project requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance throughout project lifecycles.
  • Participate in technical presentations, workshops, design reviews, HAZOPs, and safety assessments.
  • Assess existing water and wastewater infrastructure and develop practical mechanical solutions for upgrade and new-build projects.
  • Support Design & Build project delivery through close engagement with site and construction teams.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and support the preparation of design and environmental risk assessments.
  • Drive quality, innovation, and continuous improvement across all engineering activities.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng), Incorporated Engineer (IEng), or actively progressing toward professional accreditation through IMechE or an equivalent professional body.
  • Proven experience within water and/or wastewater engineering design environments.
  • Experience delivering Design & Build projects within the UK water sector.
  • Strong technical knowledge of water infrastructure, WIMES standards, UK codes, and asset standards.
  • Experience working closely with contractors and construction teams to implement engineering solutions.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Highly organised, motivated, and committed to technical excellence.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and client locations when required.

Desirable

  • Specialist expertise in water or wastewater process mechanical systems.
  • Experience leading HAZOPs, ALMs, or equivalent technical and safety review workshops.
  • Exposure to international engineering projects.
  • Previous experience mentoring junior engineers and supporting technical development.
  • Experience managing small engineering teams or coordinating multidisciplinary project activities.
