About the Opportunity

Our client, a rapidly growing organisation within the energy and utilities sector, is seeking an experienced HV Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects across the UK.

This role offers the opportunity to manage complex projects from initial planning through to commissioning and handover, including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), HV substations, underground cabling, and associated electrical and M&E infrastructure.

Working closely with DNOs, ICPs, contractors, clients, and internal delivery teams, you will take ownership of programme delivery, commercial performance, stakeholder management, and operational execution across a portfolio of high-profile energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of HV and energy infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Manage project scope, programmes, resources, budgets, and commercial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Deliver projects involving BESS, HV substations, underground cabling, M&E packages, and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Coordinate contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and specialist delivery teams.
  • Develop and manage project programmes using Primavera P6 or equivalent planning software.
  • Monitor project performance and implement mitigation or recovery plans where required.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, DNOs, ICPs, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
  • Provide technical and operational oversight of HV electrical works, including substations, switchgear, transformers, and associated systems.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks throughout delivery.
  • Maintain accurate project records, reporting, and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation, contractual obligations, and company procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Project Manager within HV, electrical, utilities, energy, or infrastructure environments.
  • Strong experience delivering high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects, ideally within the 33kV to 132kV range.
  • Experience working on:
    • HV Substations
    • Underground Cabling
    • BESS/Energy Storage Projects
    • Major Electrical Infrastructure Works
  • Experience operating within DNO, ICP, utilities, energy, or major construction environments.
  • Proven track record managing contractors, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong programme and project management skills.
  • Experience using Primavera P6 or similar project planning software.
  • Sound understanding of project budgets, commercial management, forecasting, and risk management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities within a fast-paced environment.

Desirable

  • Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • PRINCE2, APM, PMP, or equivalent Project Management qualification.
  • Experience delivering Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or Energy Storage projects.
  • Experience with 132kV substations and grid connection schemes.
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and civil project interfaces.
  • HV Authorised Person experience or understanding of HV operational requirements.
  • Experience working directly with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and Independent Connection Providers (ICPs).
