Are you good at selling? Do you get a kick out of opening doors that were closed yesterday? Does picking up the phone to call someone who's never heard of you feel like fun, not friction? And when you get that conversation, do you advise instead of push? Do you dig into what actually works for the client before pitching anything? Do you like dogs and cats as well? Then this position might be for you.

We're a B2B media company for the international pet industry. Executives in the industry love our publications (print + online) and events. We've been around since 1988. Note that we're a remote business, so you don't have to show up to an office every day. But if you love catching up with colleagues by the kombucha fountain every day, then this is probably not a good fit for you.

This is a hunter role, not a farmer role. Yes, you'll inherit a portfolio of long-term advertisers to upsell and renew. But that side of the business mostly takes care of itself. The real job, and where you'll spend 70-80% of your time, is finding and winning new clients.

What you'll do:

  • You'll spend most of your week prospecting and selling to new clients. That means emails, calls, LinkedIn and any other smart way to find executives in the pet industry who should be advertising with us but aren't yet.
  • Cold emailing (and calling) should feel natural, not something you have to psych yourself up for.
  • You'll work the occasional inbound leads that come in from our website.
  • You’ll own your pipeline end-to-end: running conversations, testing what works, and continuously improving your approach.
  • You'll manage a portfolio of existing advertisers - most of them long-term clients - and look after their renewals and upsells.
  • You'll advise them on the right campaigns across our publications to hit their goals.
  • A few times a year, you'll visit trade shows or our own event. Great places to meet prospects (and our team) in person.

What you bring to the table:

  • A real track record in sales: not just hitting targets, but beating them. We want to hear the numbers.
  • At least 2-3 years of hunter experience, or 4+ years in sales more broadly with a meaningful chunk of new business in there. If you've only ever managed existing accounts, this isn't the right role for you.
  • You've sold advertising before (or marketing services). Other B2B sales backgrounds can work if the rest is strong.
  • A consultative approach. Our advertisers aren't buying ad slots; they're buying access to an audience and outcomes for their business. You need to be able to have that conversation.
  • Highly proficient (or native-level) in English.
  • Pet industry knowledge is a nice-to-have, not a must.

Why join us?

  • You'll get rewarded for your hard work and success. The comp plan is built so that the more you sell, the more you make. Including extra upside for going over target.
  • It's a great industry to work in: pet people are (unsurprisingly) a very nice and friendly bunch.
  • We're a small team with a lot of energy and drive that tries to improve and innovate every day to make a bigger and better impact on the industry.
  • Because we've been around for 35+ years, our established brand will make your job easier. You're not cold-emailing from nowhere. You're working from a name many people in the industry already know.

How to apply:

Send an email to philippe@pets.nl with your application. Don't apply here on LinkedIn. Tell us why you'd be a good fit. And tell us about a new client you won that you're proud of: how you found them, how you closed them.

How to prepare for a job interview at GlobalPETS (& PETS International magazine)

Know Your Numbers

Before the interview, brush up on your sales metrics. Be ready to share specific examples of how you've not just met but exceeded targets in your previous roles. This will show that you have a proven track record and understand what it takes to succeed in a hunter role.

Research the Company

Dive into the company's publications and events. Familiarise yourself with their audience and the pet industry landscape. This knowledge will help you tailor your responses and demonstrate your genuine interest in the role during the interview.

Practice Your Pitch

Since this role involves a lot of cold calling and emailing, practice your pitch beforehand. Make sure you can articulate how you would approach potential clients and what value you can bring to them. This will help you feel more confident when discussing your consultative selling approach.

Prepare Questions

Think of insightful questions to ask during the interview. This could be about the company culture, the team dynamics, or how success is measured in the role. Asking thoughtful questions shows that you're engaged and serious about the opportunity.
