The role

We are looking for an experienced and organised editor to take charge of Mining Technology (www.mining-technology.com) and its two associated monthly magazines, MINE and MINE Australia. The successful candidate will be one of the senior editors leading GlobalData’s energy editorial team and will help manage across the range of publications in the energy portfolio, which includes power, offshore (oil and gas) and mining. The role will also work closely with sales, analyst and design teams to grow and develop our brands.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Oversee mining publications, including managing the Mining Technology site and newsletter, liaising with design and sales teams to prepare content for two monthly magazines – MINE and MINE Australia – in line with business priorities, helping establish media partnerships, representing the brand at industry events and more
  • Commission, write and edit mining news and features for site and magazines, delivering high quality stories on time
  • Support reporters, freelancers and junior editors to find and develop mining stories
  • Keep up to date about the latest information and developments in the mining and broader energy industry
  • Conduct thorough research, including arranging interviews with industry leaders and collaborating with market analysts to produce data-driven reports
  • Work closely with GlobalData’s energy and mining analysts, developing stories based on GD data and insights
  • Attend industry events and press conferences, at times involving international travel, to pick up stories and build a comprehensive source book of industry leaders and experts
  • Represent mining portfolio at relevant company meetings
  • Familiarise yourself with GD business processes and workflow and help optimise these for the energy team
  • Support the Editor-in-Chief with team workflow, strategy – such as compiling insights on content performance and suggestions for improvement – and otherwise where necessary
  • Upload and schedule stories through a content management system
  • Optimise pieces for SEO and use social media to share stories, engage with readers and promote the energy team’s publications
  • Proactively utilise digital organisational tools to effectively manage and keep track of your own tasks, commissioned tasks and team’s overall workflow

What We’re Looking For

  • At least three years’ experience in journalism, including editing, with a track record of published work
  • Experience working with data to produce data visualisations and data-driven stories
  • Organisation skills and digital prowess are highly desirable
  • Sector knowledge/experience (demonstrable understanding of energy industry and landscape, especially mining sector) is desirable
  • Strong writing and research skills
  • Detail-oriented and passion for fact-checking
  • Excellent communication, networking and interviewing skills
  • The ability to work in an interactive, time-sensitive and deadline-driven environment
  • Adaptable to working independently as well as coordinating with team
  • Experience in management is a plus
  • Experience with social media and SEO is a plus
