The role…
The Associate Consulting Director is a member of the consulting team and is responsible for commercialising consulting services. This primarily involves:
- Delivering a commercial target/budget for the business
- Developing a pipeline of opportunities sufficient to hit target
- Communicating the proposition and capabilities to clients and potential clients
- Identifying and understanding client needs
- Designing solutions and services that solve client problems
- Working with internal teams to resource and plan for projects
- Ensuring projects remain commercially viable and deliver on client needs
- Being a figurehead for delivery of projects, ensuring client satisfaction
The role requires liaison between multiple stakeholders within GlobalData, including sales teams, consulting delivery teams, and analysts. The role requires a pro-active, inquisitive nature and the ability to build gold standard client relationships; the combination of these three elements will enable the identification of new business opportunities and new revenue streams which will be critical to success in the role. A positive attitude at all times is one of the most critical attributes for success.
Based in the UK, this role requires travel for internal, client, and industry meetings; regular travel in the UK and Europe should be expected. The Associate Consulting Director will work across a wide range of clients and industries, including but not limited to “Food+” and “Beverages” verticals.
The junior nature of the role means that guidance and support will be provided on an ongoing basis by the line manager and other stakeholders within GlobalData as the employee settles into the role. Training and immersion will also be given, in addition to learning on the job. The position reports to the Snr Global Consulting Director, with a dotted line to the Global Head of Consulting.
As a Associate Consulting Director, you will be given support and guidance on all aspects of your role. This will, primarily, be via your line manager. But buddies from other areas of the business may also be assigned to assist on particular leads and projects.
What you’ll be doing…
- Business development
Finding potential target clients within the defined sales territory. Identifying the appropriate contacts within target companies and building and maintaining relationships with them. Understanding the general research, knowledge, and insight requirements of target clients and how this can be supported through GlobalData’s capabilities. Finding creative ways to accomplish the above including cold outreach, networking events, conferences, presentations, thought leadership and so forth. Working with sales and other commercial teams to convert their leads into sales.
- Proposals and solutions
Discuss company specific challenges with key contacts. Develop a detailed understanding of client objectives and needs and what they wish to accomplish from a commercial perspective. Use the above understanding, coupled with an existing understanding of research methodologies, to develop solutions that meet a client’s commercial objectives. Develop, write and present proposals – including the commercials – to explain the solutions and the commercials behind them. Work closely with the delivery teams to ensure that the client’s needs are fully met by the research and assess the feasibility of budgets and timelines. Manage the proposal process with the client, including amendments and securing sign-off. Proactively work on new solutions and capabilities GlobalData should bring to clients to raise brand awareness in the market, generate new leads, and expand our footprint across the US-based client portfolio.
- Delivery
Act as the figurehead for project delivery, ensuring that client needs are met and instilling confidence in the client. Where necessary, assist with the creation of any materials required for delivery working closely with the consultants in this regard. Follow up with clients post-delivery to understand satisfaction with the delivery and work to remedy any weaknesses that they may identify.
- Pipeline management
Carefully manage pipelines to ensure that opportunities remain updated through the sales process. Ensure there is sufficient coverage in the pipeline to hit required targets; remedying any gaps through outreach and other commercial activity. Regularly update and report on sales and pipeline progress.
