Overview

Capital XTRA is the home of the biggest Hip Hop & RnB music, alongside the UK’s most respected and brightest personalities. In this role, you’ll help create standout content for the Capital XTRA Evening Show and wider station projects. We’re looking for a producer who’s passionate about the music and culture that defines Capital XTRA. You’ll work to deliver high-quality content across broadcast and digital platforms, bringing fresh, creative ideas to engage and entertain our audience. This is a chance to produce exciting work that reflects Capital XTRA’s brand while developing your own skills.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the planning, creating, and delivering of the Capital XTRA Evening Show (80%): Producing entertaining, music focussed radio & digital content that resonates with the world of Capital XTRA for an audience of 15-35-year-olds.
  • Developing and implementing show features and topical subjects for your show, planning shows across days, weeks, months and beyond.
  • Preparing, recording, and editing content and guest interviews for multiple platforms, and collaborating with the Digital Team to create outstanding video content and viral moments.
  • Communicating with the wider Capital XTRA team on the daily output of the Evening Show, key moments and highlights from guest interviews.
  • Ensuring that presenting talent is broadcasting to the highest of their abilities, maintaining station tone, whilst keeping their own personality.
  • Supporting on station wide projects and campaigns (10%): Working with the Senior Producer and Branded Content Team to devise and execute dynamic & high impact on-air campaigns/competitions.
  • Producing station branded specials across key moments of the year (10%): From Carnival to Christmas and everything in between. You’ll be developing ideas and producing special content for radio & digital platforms, marking key moments in the Capital XTRA calendar.

What Success Looks Like

In your first few months, you’ll have:

  • Started to build great relationships with presenters, your show team, the Capital XTRA team and key teams around Global.
  • Led the execution of brilliant creative ideas on air and online, some involving music artists & celebrity guests.
  • Worked with the Digital Team to deliver outstanding content across our platforms, including Global Player.
  • Helped devise and implement exciting commercial branded content.

What You’ll Need

  • An excellent understanding of music radio and be across music and entertainment news within the world of Capital XTRA.
  • A passion for the music and good knowledge of all genres in Capital XTRA’s playlist, including Hip Hop, RnB, Reggae, UK Rap, Afrobeats and Dancehall.
  • The ability to produce, collate and distribute all relevant scripts and show planning documents.
  • Confidence in using workflows and following production processes necessary to complete tasks.
  • You’ll be someone who understands how to use digital platforms and build digital content to grow reach and help deliver subscribers for Global Player.
  • Pride in creativity, with a wealth of ideas and the ability to inspire and work alongside others.
  • The capability to bring out the best in Capital XTRA’s presenter talent, including both well-established personalities and forward-thinking emerging talent.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with management, presenters, teammates, guests and their teams. Including feedback and on-air direction when needed.
  • Attention to detail to ensure consistently high-quality work.
  • Knowledge of commercial radio practices.
  • Knowledge of UK media law.
  • Experience with Zetta and G Selector is an advantage but not essential.
  • Confidence in working towards personal objectives while also helping others achieve business goals, setting, and stretching new standards.
