The Data Science Team at Global is recruiting for a Data Scientist to join our experienced and close-knit team of data scientists and analysts. Working in a highly fluid commercial environment and utilising the latest technology in the data analysis and science fields, you will take ownership for modelling, analysing and communicating key metrics to business in order to drive commercial success as well as managing and constantly improving our forecasting and optimisation algorithms.

Working and collaborating with other departments within the business (DAX team, Data Engineering Team, Commercial Operations Team, Outdoor Teams, Insights Teams amongst others), you will additionally deliver analysis that answers business questions around, but not limited to, client behaviour, product efficiency, pricing and inventory efficiency.

Measures of success – In the first few months, you would have:

  • Gained a solid understanding of our business operating model in all main business streams: Audio, Digital, Outdoor.
  • Knowledge of our main data warehouses and data workflows that we are working with.
  • Exposure to existing analytical solutions and tools the team has delivered.
  • Understanding and co-ownership of our inventory demand forecasting module.
  • Delivered Ad-Hoc analysis and insight for various critical business questions.

Responsibilities of the role

  • Deploy Operational Research (OR) techniques and modelling to enable organic revenue growth for our business.
  • Collaboration with our Digital Audio Exchange department (DAX) to establish an analytical framework for growth in our connected listenership revenue stream.
  • Boost our planning optimisation algorithms; analyse how our sales team use such tools, make recommendations and deliver improvements.
  • Ownership of the inventory forecasting algorithms/tools.
  • Engineer and implement Revenue Management (RM) capabilities for our outdoor trading systems, ensuring we deliver on evolving business challenges.
  • Stakeholder management – understanding how the output from the team can be used and have a positive effect in downstream business processes.
  • Deliver on ad-hoc analysis briefs answering critical business questions in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Explore and create opportunities of small data science projects within the commercial department to provide significant insight and drive commercial value.
  • Collaborate with your immediate team to help out where reasonably required.

What you will need

The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:

  • Demonstrable understanding and experience in predictive and forecasting methodologies.
  • The ability to engineer and build models, key metrics and “What-If” scenarios to drive growth for our business and facilitate decision making.
  • A believer in patterns and the importance they play in decision-making. Able to extract trends and insights from complex and incomplete data sets.
  • Experience in programming languages - generally someone who gets excited by code.
  • Experience in data manipulation and exposure to relevant tools (i.e. SQL and Alteryx or other).
  • Passionate about data and knowledge of data visualisation (Tableau experience would be desirable but not crucial).
  • An outstanding eye for detail, ability to deliver time-sensitive work to a high standard.
  • A professional manner, who can closely interact with senior management.
  • Able to explain analysis to non-numerate people and understand their perspective.
  • A can-do demeanour, positivity around data challenges and generally a natural inclination for extrapolating business problems and provide solutions utilising data.
  • An understanding of revenue management concepts and strategies would be great, but not a necessity.

To deliver in the role we’d ideally like you to have a relevant BSc or MSc degree or equivalent experience gained through your career to date.
