Your Role: LBC & LBC News Correspondent – Midlands

We’re looking for a first-class journalist, with a proven track record in delivering impactful and original content from the Midlands to join LBC, LBC News and Global’s newsroom on a full-time basis. You’ll lead LBC’s coverage of the biggest stories across your region, use your patch expertise to support our regional bulletins, and have a strong understanding of how to make a story work across audio and video platforms.

As well as having a great contacts book full of reliable sources from across the Midlands, you’ll have a strong broadcast voice, outstanding writing skills and a good understanding of Ofcom regulations. Experience of delivering live content on air and on digital platforms would be ideal, but we’re interested in hearing from those from print backgrounds too.

Key Responsibilities

As a Correspondent, you will be LBC’s expert across the Midlands with a thorough grasp of the issues affecting the region and the stories that mean the most to our listeners. You will work with the Senior News Editor to help set the news agenda for the Midlands, with your stories and content forming part of the output daily, as well as regularly featuring across the LBC brand.

You’ll be an expert at telling stories across our radio brands and our social and digital platforms – with demonstrable experience of producing multiplatform content, from concept to delivery. You’ll be innovative in your approach to storytelling across sites like YouTube and TikTok, with an understanding of how to engage audiences on these platforms. You’ll be able to break news rapidly and have confidence to deliver reports live and in vision. You’ll have sound legal judgement and be proficient in Ofcom’s broadcast regulations and guidelines. You’ll have a great range of contacts and understand the importance of forging new relationships across the region. You’ll have the flexibility to cover the big stories whenever and wherever they happen.

What You’ll Love About This Role
  • Think Big: You’ll be joining LBC at an exciting time, as we grow our video offering whilst continuing to deliver award winning radio. This expansion gives you space to think creatively, experiment with new formats, and help shape the future of LBC’s multiplatform journalism.
  • Own It: As well as dealing with day-to-day news, you’ll be given the time to work up and deliver your own exclusives across LBC & LBC News — taking ownership of stories from idea to execution.
  • Keep it Simple: You’ll cut through the noise by developing clear, compelling exclusives and high impact journalism that resonates across LBC’s radio and video platforms.
  • Better Together: You’ll work with a dedicated newsgathering team and some of the most talented broadcasters in the business, collaborating closely to deliver exceptional journalism across the LBC network.
What Success Looks Like

In your first few months, you’ll have:

  • Delivered several exclusive stories that have set the news agenda across both the Midlands regional bulletins and LBC and helped positioned the brand as the home for high impact journalism.
  • Started to build key relationships with our Newsgathering team, presenters and Midlands newsroom.
  • Taken the lead on a breaking story and then moved it on with new lines across audio and video.
  • Developed a full understanding of LBC and other brands across Global.
What You’ll Need

The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:

  • You will be confident working on your own and under the guidance of your Senior colleagues to provide on-target, agenda-setting news content.
  • You will be passionate about news, and eager to investigate and create your own outstanding and exclusive stories.
  • You will have a commanding on-air presence and be confident in your ability to report live into LBC and LBC News.
  • You will be happy to work flexible hours and always strive to complete a task to a high standard.
  • Video Journalism experience, and a knowledge of what works for social platforms is highly desirable.
  • A full, clean UK driving licence is essential.
