AI Data Adventurer in Banbury

Location: Oxford OX1 1XX (hybrid options available)

Salary: £14.50/hour

Contract: Full-time (37.5 hours/week), starting as soon as possible, for an initial six months

AI technology is opening up a massive new opportunity in data publishing, and Global Water Intelligence intends to seize it. For more than two decades, we've produced the data, forecasts and judgement that the global water sector relies on. We're now discovering that AI lets us build new datasets faster and more cheaply than ever before, and that's where we see our next chapter of growth.

The Regulations Database sits right at the centre of that opportunity. It's how we turn scattered, hard-to-track regulation into something our customers can act on. We're a small team getting to grips with what AI means for how we build products, and we want an AI Data Adventurer to get stuck in alongside us. The data you help build will be used by the utilities, investors and governments shaping how water is regulated worldwide.

About you

This is about mindset more than skillset. We are not specifically looking for a data scientist or coder, as with AI’s assistance you’ll pick up the light coding the job needs as you go. We want a resourceful problem-solver: someone who can take on a challenge, break it down, and find a way around the obstacles. You'll take ownership of your work and run with it, while coordinating closely with the project lead. Arts graduates can be just as good at this as scientists if they're curious, creative thinkers. You should have pursued a rigorous course of study at university and have a genuine interest in what AI can do. An engagement with the issues that the world is facing as a result of climate change is also important. Fluency in a European language would be an advantage, but not a necessity.

The role

You'll work closely with the project lead, learning to use large language models to gather, check and structure regulatory data at scale. You can expect to be involved in:

• Understanding regulations: working out what rules mean on paper and in practice, who they apply to and how they change.
• Searching for sources of data: tracking down where the world’s regulations actually live, and how to extract them.
• Managing and verifying datasets: keeping regulatory records clean and structured, while catching machine errors.
• Adapting to AI: using AI to build scrapers, structure data and accelerate workflows.
