If you’re an RVN who cares about who you work with, how you’re supported, and actually using your skills properly; this is one worth a look. GVC is working with a long-standing independent practice that offers something many roles don’t: a genuinely stable, experienced team, a varied and hands-on nursing role, and a working environment where you’re treated like a professional. Alongside this, you’ll be paid for every hour worked (including lunch breaks), with a structured rota and a team that works collaboratively across both sites.

This is a well-established independent practice with over 70 years in the local community and that stability really shows in the team:

  • Many team members have been with the practice for years
  • Strong mix of experience across vets and nurses
  • Supportive, down-to-earth culture (no egos, no hierarchy issues)
  • Collaborative working across two close-knit sites

The caseload is varied, including small animals, birds, and exotics, giving you exposure beyond a typical first-opinion role. Both sites are fully equipped with:

  • Digital X-ray, ultrasound, ECG
  • In-house lab for fast diagnostics
  • Dedicated theatres for soft tissue and orthopaedics

The focus is very much on keeping cases in-house, allowing for better continuity and more rewarding nursing involvement.

This isn’t a “hands tied” nursing role, you’ll be actively involved across all areas:

  • Theatre work with dedicated rota time
  • Inpatient care and case management
  • Nurse consults (including weight clinics, diabetes, senior pets, behaviour)
  • Supporting a wide variety of surgical and medical cases
  • Rotation across both sites to keep things varied

The rota is built to give you a proper mix of clinical work and client interaction, not just being stuck in one area.

If you’re someone who wants to keep developing, this practice will support that:

  • Encouraged CPD and ongoing training
  • Exposure to a varied caseload including more complex cases
  • Opportunity to develop interests (e.g. nurse clinics, medical cases, alternative therapies like acupuncture)
  • Support from an experienced team to build confidence and clinical skills

This is a good fit for someone who wants to grow in a steady, supportive environment rather than being thrown in the deep end.

Flexible full-time or part-time options:

  • Weekday shifts: Early: 8:30am – 2:00pm, Late: 2:00pm – 7:30pm, All Day: 8:30am – 7:30pm, Occasional middle shift: 8:30am – 4:30pm
  • 1 in 4 weekends (moving towards 1 in 6): Saturday: 8:30am – 5:30pm, Sunday: 8:30am – 1:30pm

Key difference: All hours are paid; including lunch breaks. No TOIL system.

Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly rate (DOE)
  • Paid for all hours worked - No TOIL system.
  • 28 days annual leave + bank holidays (pro rata)
  • Company pension | Staff discount (after probation)
  • Structured rota planned in advance

What Makes This Role Different:

  • Independent practice with long-standing, stable team
  • Paid for every hour worked (rare and genuinely valued by nurses)
  • Varied caseload including exotics
  • Proper use of nursing skills (consults, theatre, inpatient care)
  • Supportive, low-drama working environment
  • Strong focus on keeping cases in-house

About You:

  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Confident across general nursing duties
  • Enjoys working within a team-focused environment
  • Keen to continue developing clinically
  • Flexible to work across both sites
