We are recruiting a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join a well-established small animal practice in Liverpool. This is an exciting opportunity to step into a senior clinical role within a 7-vet team, working closely with the passionate practice owner to shape the future of the clinic. This position would suit a confident, well-rounded GP vet with strong interests in both medicine and surgery, who enjoys mentoring others and creating a positive team culture. If you’re someone who leads by example, values collaboration, and takes pride in developing junior vets and nurses, this could be the ideal next step. You’ll work closely with the leading owner to help guide the clinical direction and long-term success of the practice. There is also future partnership potential for the right individual as the role evolves.
The Role
This is a full-time position across 4 days per week, with 1 in 3 Saturdays. The role combines hands-on clinical work with leadership responsibilities, giving you the chance to influence both clinical standards and team development. The practice is well-equipped and soon to undergo refurbishment, with facilities including:
- Digital X-ray
- Ultrasound
- Brand-new laparoscopy equipment
- Dedicated dental suite
- Access to advanced imaging, surgery and hospitalisation through a nearby 24-hour hospital
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality clinical care in both consultations and surgery
- Lead and support a team of veterinary surgeons and nurses
- Mentor and develop junior team members
- Build strong relationships with clients and deliver tailored treatment plans
- Maintain high clinical and regulatory standards
- Contribute to the commercial success and growth of the practice
- Help shape the clinical direction alongside the Owner
Requirements
- Qualified MRCVS Veterinary Surgeon
- Strong all-round GP experience in small animal practice
- Confidence in both medicine and surgery
- Previous mentoring or leadership experience beneficial
- Good commercial awareness and interest in practice growth
- Passion for delivering excellent patient and client care
Salary & Benefits
- Salary up to £95,000 (depending on experience)
- Quarterly bonus scheme – up to 20% if targets are met
- 4-day working week
- 1 in 3 Saturdays
- 5 weeks’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays (rising with service)
- £1,500 CPD allowance
- 3 days CPD leave
- Certificate support available
- RCVS, VDS and BVA fees paid
- Relocation support and visa sponsorship available
