Are you looking to escape the corporate treadmill and regain true clinical autonomy? This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join a truly independent, family-oriented practice currently undergoing an inspiring transformation. This isn't a "plug-and-play" corporate role; it's a chance for a seasoned professional to help shape the future of a practice that values honesty, independence, and the high standards that come with being locally owned. If you want to build something meaningful in a place where your voice matters, this is for you.

About the Practice & Location: Located on the stunning island of Guernsey, this independent practice is the heart of a loyal community of 65,000 people. Being independent means the team answers to their patients and clients, not to distant shareholders. The practice operates across two sites and is currently investing in major refurbishments to modernize its systems and facilities. The location offers an unparalleled lifestyle. Imagine finishing a shift and being on a world-class beach in minutes. With a flat 20% income tax and no capital gains or inheritance tax, your take-home pay is significantly higher than in the UK.

About the Role and Team: As part of an independent team, you aren't restricted by corporate protocols. You will have the freedom to practice medicine the way you were trained to, with a focus on quality over quotas.

  • Clinical Autonomy: You will have the "driver's seat" on your cases, from initial consultation to resolution, with the support of experienced colleagues who are just a phone call away.
  • The Caseload: A full-service small animal caseload including routine and intermediate surgery, medical workups, dentistry, and imaging.
  • OOH & Balance: On-call is shared fairly (1 in 4), with weekends involving one hour of Sunday availability for true emergencies only. Work-life balance is the whole point of island life.
  • The Rebuild: The practice is being ruthlessly honest about improving systems—they want a partner in progress, not just a passenger.

About You (To Be Considered): Please note: This role requires a high level of independence and is not suitable for New Graduates.

  • Experience: You must have a minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience in a small animal environment.
  • Clinical Confidence: You should be fully comfortable in a consulting room and capable of performing routine surgeries and medical workups without direct supervision or "handholding."
  • Traits: You are patient, kind, and observant. You can manage a busy diary and handle difficult conversations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Values: You appreciate the benefits of an independent practice and are willing to contribute to a team-based, problem-solving culture.

Benefits, Including Salary:

  • Salary: £65,000 - £85,000 (depending on experience).
  • The Tax Advantage: Guernsey's low-tax environment is a massive draw. A £75,000 salary here nets you approximately £58,000, compared to roughly £52,000 for the same salary in the UK.
  • Relocation: A full relocation package is included to help you transition to your new island home.
  • Island Perks: Safe streets, short commutes, no inheritance tax, and London just a 45-minute flight away.
