Overall Purpose: To lead and manage the InUni application processing team developing a high quality processing team through which applications to InUni Institutional Partner programmes can be dealt with accurately and efficiently.
Principal Duties:
- To lead, manage and train the Admissions teams overseas and supervise the offshore team, ensuring seamless integration in overall application processes.
- To ensure that the teams operate flexibly and to deploy resources appropriately to deal with peaks in demand.
- Run and analyse admission operations data, provide expert opinion on data trends and patterns during the cycle and produce reports with process improvement recommendations and manage implementation plan.
- To work with the Head of Admissions Operations and Visa Compliance to develop and implement innovative procedures and business processes in relation to application processing, underpinning the University’s strategic objectives.
- To collaborate closely with IT and project teams on the specification and development of management information systems to meet future Institutional needs for the admission of students, and to provide - in association with such staff - training for all users of such systems.
- To be responsible for the delivery of a high quality application processing service that is responsive to the needs of applicants, academics and other colleagues and services.
- Establish a series of service level agreements with the Head of Recruitment Relationships, and other relevant stakeholders in relation to application processing; to monitor performance against these SLAs and to take action to remedy poor performance.
- To be an acknowledged expert on qualifications, including international qualifications and equivalences, providing advice and making judgements where necessary.
- To keep up to date with changes in qualifications and to advise staff as appropriate.
- To have overall responsibility for the quality of application data on the University student records system (SITS and others) and to further develop auditing and error reporting of admissions data making appropriate recommendations to ensure data quality.
- To ensure that application processing procedures are clearly understood by all relevant staff and reflect both internal and external requirements with particular regard to changes in public examinations, professional body requirements, QAA Codes of Practice and the legal framework, including data protection legislation and consumer protection law.
- To work with the University’s student records and HESA teams to ensure that the data transferred from admissions to these partners meets their requirements and is of the highest possible quality.
- To work with the Head of Admissions and Compliance Team to ensure compliance with UKVI requirements with particular emphasis on ensuring the applicants meet the required Tier 4 rules for admission, possess the correct English language qualifications and that all appropriate documentation is held on file.
- To be the key point of contact within Admissions Operations in relation to the assessment of applicants, ensuring that applications are appropriately assessed by all team members and ensuring all relevant documentation is retained on file.
- To deputise for the Head of Admissions and Student Visa Compliance at internal and external meetings or events where necessary.
- To contribute to, or service committees and working groups as required.
The above list of tasks is not exhaustive and the post-holder will be expected to work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the team providing cover and assistance when necessary.
Requirements:
Education/Qualifications
- Essential: Educated to degree level or equivalent standard.
EXPERIENCE:
- Essential: Substantial experience of working in higher education admissions in a management role with expert knowledge.
- Experience of setting team and individual targets in a management setting, monitoring progress against these and taking remedial action where necessary.
- Desirable: Experience of identifying and delivering innovative business process improvements to achieve strategic aims. Experience of project work or of working directly as part of a project team.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Essential: An excellent knowledge of qualifications, including international qualifications and equivalents and assessment of residential category (fee status).
- A high level of IT knowledge and understanding of database development and problem-solving within a Higher Education context.
- Substantial experience in the preparation and delivery of training and other presentations to a variety of audiences.
- Desirable: Knowledge of the specific admissions requirements for International applicants.
- The ability to initiate new developments or projects and to see these through to a satisfactory conclusion.
- A good knowledge of the processes and regulations relating to admission of students under Tier 4 of the Points Based Immigration rules.
SKILLS:
- Essential: Excellent management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and plan the work of others to achieve specific objectives.
