Overview

Global Underwater Hub (GUH) is the leading trade and industry development body for the UK’s underwater sectors with a vision to transform the sector into one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the country, accelerating the energy transition to net zero, creating high value jobs, technology and exports.

Led and governed by industry, GUH represents, promotes and supports all sectors of the underwater industry by providing companies with the market information, connections and access to specialist expertise that they need to grow.

Role

The management accountant will be responsible for day to day running of operational finance for the organisation as well as providing ongoing system and process improvements. In addition the role will provide support to the Finance Director (FD) on all reporting to key stakeholders. The management accountant will work with the operational teams to provide finance support to the delivery of all revenue streams including assisting with planning and budgeting where required.

This is a part time role anticipated to require about 25-30 hours per week. Work patterns to cover these hours can be discussed with interested candidates.

Key Accountabilities

  • Financial Processing and Accounts Preparation
  • Supervise work of the Accounts Administrator
  • Preparation and posting of monthly prepayments and accruals journals
  • Review of nominal codes each month for accuracy and completeness
  • Preparation of monthly Payroll Journal and payment of PAYE, NIC and Pension Deductions
  • Preparation of draft monthly reports for review and finalisation with Financial Director (FD) (profit and loss, balance sheet and cashflow), including narrative for movements
  • Understanding and analysis of GUH product/service line profitability
  • Preparation of monthly evidence reports to support government grant claims
  • Preparation of monthly VAT returns
  • Monthly review of the aged debtors and creditors listings, including credit control support
  • Monthly review of major balance sheet accounts including control account reconciliations.
  • Maintenance of the fixed asset register
  • Support input of sales and purchase ledger invoices and bank payments, including matching on Sage.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Assist in preparation of annual budgets working with operational teams
  • Work with FD to provide quarterly updates to forecasting for presentation at Finance Committee
  • Provide financial support to project teams for individual project budgets.
  • Systems and Processes
  • Assist FD in the development and review of financial processes as organisation grows
  • Work with the team to identify system improvements and efficiencies and provide support in the implementation of improvement plans
  • Develop and keep up to date finance processes and provide training for the wider team where required.
  • Ad hoc requirements
  • Liaise with external auditors
  • Assist FD in preparation of quarterly board packs and finance committee packs
  • Assist FD in preparation of annual review for AGM
  • Work with Operations Manager to complete insurance renewal questionnaires and handle ad-hoc insurance queries.

Person specification

Qualifications and experience

  • Qualified accountant – ACCA/CIMA/ICAS (or QBE)
  • Previous experience in an industry setting preferred but not essential
  • Experience of Sage 50
