Emerging technology and artificial intelligence (AI) are reshaping healthcare. 8 million children worldwide need holistic palliative care to meet their needs and those of their families. There is a need - and an opportunity - for children's palliative care to lead: showing how digital innovation can amplify compassion, equity and quality of life, rather than distract from it.

Global Treehouse is seizing the opportunity to leverage technology to strengthen care for children with serious illness and their families. We’ve co-created innovative tools for the field, tested artificial intelligence resources and are providing shared platforms to help people understand technology in the field. This role will accelerate this impact - translating potential into credible, visible action for the children's palliative care sector.

The role is fractional/part-time, typically 2.5–3 days per week. This role leads Global Treehouse's technology and AI goals, working closely with the Executive Director to turn existing ideas, principles and recommendations into real, delivered initiatives with impact for funders, partners, practitioners and ultimately children and families. This is a delivery-led role, with clear accountability for translating Global Treehouse's digital and AI strategy into tangible programmes and outputs for the field.

The Digital Innovation and Artificial Intelligence Lead will be an externally facing leader who can credibly represent Global Treehouse. Over the first 12 months, this role will primarily focus on establishing a visible digital innovation programme by launching an inaugural worldwide technology challenge in 2027, including mentorship, recruitment and an in-person showcase. The role offers a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of technology, healthcare delivery and global systems change, shaping a field at a critical moment.

Key responsibilities and deliverables

  • Lead the Global Treehouse digital innovation goals
  • Act as GT's internal lead on technology, digital health and artificial intelligence.
  • Exercise judgment on scope, focus and priorities across digital and artificial intelligence initiatives.
  • Represent GT credibly in webinars, events and external conversations.
  • Bring to life and deliver the Innovation challenge
  • Translate Global Treehouse's existing work and thinking into a successful innovation challenge, including: relevant scope and focus areas, clearly defined eligibility and selection criteria and pre-support for applicants and stakeholders for the award process.
  • Partner with technologists and clinicians to ensure relevance and accessibility.
  • Work closely with Global Treehouse colleagues and partners to produce high-quality external outputs, including public announcements, blogs, social media content and winner announcements.
  • Support partnerships and funding
  • Work with the Global Treehouse Executive Director and other colleagues to secure and ensure smooth execution with anchor partner(s) for an in-person showcase.
  • Support tech-related pitches and conversations with funders, partners and impact-driven investors.
  • Translate artificial intelligence and digital potential into children's palliative care contexts
  • Identify and review digital and artificial intelligence solutions relevant to children's palliative care.
  • Assess what is promising and appropriate for real-world delivery.
  • Develop practical learning formats for the field, including webinars, short training and guidance resources that help the sector engage responsibly with technology and especially artificial intelligence.

This role works closely with the small and nimble team: Executive Director, Practice Lead and Chief of Staff, and other colleagues in 2026. The lead will relish building on practitioner-led work.
