The client is seeking a Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) to provide general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This role is critical to quality and customer satisfaction and operates in a fast-paced production laboratory environment. The SPT I performs a variety of tasks including specimen receiving, presorting, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging, and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory. The role requires strong data entry accuracy, organizational skills, and the ability to learn and comply with frequently changing test-ordering and compliance regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen processing functions including A-station, presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, and imaging
  • Pick up and deliver processed specimens within the laboratory
  • Accurately enter specimen and test data (minimum 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour)
  • Maintain compliance with all laboratory safety and regulatory requirements
  • Work in a biohazard environment while practicing proper safety procedures
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area
  • Communicate effectively with laboratory staff at all levels
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing daily priorities

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong data entry skills and attention to detail
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required

Preferred Skills

  • Previous laboratory or specimen processing experience
  • Medical background, including medical terminology
  • Prior hospital or clinical laboratory experience
  • Experience working in a production environment
