Technical Architect & Principal & D365 F&O Engineer

About the Role

This role leads the technical development, architecture and optimisation of the D365 F&O platform within On's Engineering Leadership, reporting to Florian Jensen, Hiring Manager. It ensures seamless integrations and a robust, scalable foundation that supports On's growth and global operations. The role sits within the Digital Engineering team, which works across the organisation to create innovative experiences from e-commerce platforms to internal tools. The team's mission is to shape On's digital future, enhancing customer interactions and supporting business growth with creative, forward-thinking solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and champion a compelling technical vision for D365 F&O, guiding the development team to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions.
• Promote a culture of clean, efficient and maintainable code, setting high standards and leading constructive code reviews to uphold best practices.
• Continuously analyse and optimise the D365 F&O platform, identifying bottlenecks and implementing solutions to ensure optimal speed, scalability and reliability.
• Lead the technical design and architecture for Dynamics 365 F&O, balancing business requirements, industry standards and technical feasibility.
• Design and oversee integrations between D365 F&O and critical systems, including e-commerce platforms, payment gateways, marketing automation tools, CRM systems and logistics providers.
• Apply event-driven architecture, event-driven integration patterns and asynchronous data flows to ensure seamless and resilient data flow.
• Establish and support development standards, version control, testing methodologies and deployment processes.
• Provide expert technical guidance to the development team, troubleshooting complex issues and resolving operational challenges.
• Mentor team members, fostering a supportive environment dedicated to continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
• Research and evaluate emerging technologies in the D365 F&O ecosystem to identify opportunities for platform enhancement.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience developing and implementing Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O solutions, with a focus on technical design, development and performance optimisation.
• In-depth understanding of Dynamics 365 F&O architecture, including data models, security models, development frameworks and APIs.
• Strong proficiency in X++, C# and related languages essential for D365 F&O development.
• Proven ability to optimise application performance through database tuning, code optimisation and infrastructure configuration.
• Extensive experience connecting D365 F&O with external systems using modern integration patterns and technologies.
• Demonstrated success in guiding, mentoring and empowering engineering teams to uphold quality standards.
• Strong problem-solving skills to navigate and resolve complex technical challenges.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven track record of collaborating effectively with developers, business analysts and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Dedication to staying current with D365 F&O updates.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with core finance processes (e.g. order-to-cash, procure-to-pay), cloud platforms (e.g. Azure), Agile/DevOps practices or relevant Microsoft certifications.

Workplace

• Hybrid role in London, working two days a week in the office in Spitalfields near Liverpool Street on the Elizabeth Line.
