Logistics Manager- NEC Arenas in Birmingham

Birmingham Full-Time On-site
Global Sports Jobs Limited

About the Role

This role leads and coordinates the end-to-end logistics operation across Utilita Arena Birmingham and BP Pulse Live, ensuring the right products, stock and equipment are available in the right place, at the right time and in the right quantity. It provides dedicated ownership of stock management, ordering, deliveries, storage, transfers and event replenishment, strengthening controls while supporting commercial performance, operational readiness and an excellent guest experience. The post-holder reports directly to the Deputy General Manager and works collaboratively with the Heads of Retail and Premium, operational managers, Culinary and Business Systems, leading the logistics teams across both arenas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own stock management across both arenas, maintaining accurate stock levels aligned to event demand and setting and reviewing stock holding and par levels to balance availability against excess and at-risk stock.
  • Lead stock counts, reconciliation and variance investigation, identifying trends and implementing corrective action.
  • Manage stock rotation, expiry dates, waste, breakages and inter-venue transfers to protect margin and reduce unnecessary loss, maintaining clear controls and audit trails for stock movements, returns, write-offs and adjustments.
  • Own ordering across both arenas, using attendance, event type, demographic, forecast spend per head and historic trading data, and tailoring orders to individual event profiles to reduce speculative ordering, unnecessary stock holding and working capital tied up in inventory.
  • Coordinate supplier deliveries, shortages, substitutions and event-specific requirements, escalating risks early.
  • Work closely with Retail, Premium and Culinary teams to ensure product requirements are understood and ordered in line with the event plan.
  • Develop event-by-event logistics and replenishment plans across both arenas, ensuring Retail, Premium and relevant back-of-house areas are appropriately stocked and operationally ready ahead of doors opening.
  • Plan and coordinate live-event replenishment in response to sales performance and changes in demand, and coordinate stock, equipment and consumables between storage areas, outlets and venues.
  • Lead post-event stock returns, consolidation and reconciliation, capturing learning for future events.
  • Use stock and sales information to improve gross profit, reduce waste and positively impact overall contribution, identifying slow-moving, excess or at-risk stock and working with operational teams to sell through or redistribute it.
  • Improve product availability and minimise lost sales caused by stock-outs or ineffective replenishment, and provide insight into ordering patterns, stock usage and variances to support forecasting and future event planning.
  • Lead the logistics teams across both arenas, setting clear responsibilities, rotas, priorities and standards, coaching and developing team members in stock control, safe handling, operational standards and efficient ways of working.
  • And building resilience through cross-training and consistent processes across both venues.
  • Ensure storage areas are secure, organised and compliant with appropriate controls over access to stock, maintain robust receiving and delivery-checking processes that identify and resolve discrepancies, and ensure logistics activity complies with food safety, health & safety.
  • Manual handling and relevant company policies, maintaining accurate documentation and supporting internal and external audit requirements.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience in logistics, stock control, warehousing, supply chain or a comparable operational environment.
  • Strong understanding of stock accuracy, rotation, reconciliation, waste control and inventory management.
  • Experience leading and developing teams and delivering through others.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of how stock, availability, waste and working capital impact profitability.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to plan across multiple events, venues and competing priorities.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, with confidence using data to make decisions and challenge assumptions.
  • Proactive and solutions focused, with the ability to identify risk and act before it impacts event delivery.
  • Strong communicator who can build effective relationships across Retail, Premium, Culinary, suppliers and venue stakeholders.
  • Visible, hands on leadership style with high standards and strong attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced event environment, including evenings and weekends where required.
  • Committed to continuous improvement, team development and delivering an excellent guest experience.
