About the Role
The Foundation Phase Goalkeeping Coach will join the Academy coaching team for the 2026/27 season. The role is responsible for delivering the Academy Goalkeeping Coaching Programme, supporting the development of young goalkeepers within the Foundation Phase and ensuring a smooth transition between the Pre-Academy, Foundation Phase and Youth Development Phase. Working within a player-centred environment, the coach plans, delivers and reviews high-quality sessions that support the technical, tactical, physical and psychological development of goalkeepers. The coach works closely with Academy staff to create a positive learning environment that maximises each player's potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, deliver and review goalkeeper coaching activities in line with the Academy's Performance Plan.
- Support individual Foundation Phase goalkeepers by delivering agreed commitments within each player's Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and lead continual review and refinement to keep the programme responsive to individual needs.
- Support the Lead Schoolboy Academy Goalkeeper Coach, and where necessary lead, in creating and developing ILPs for all Foundation Phase goalkeepers.
- Plan and prepare engaging goalkeeping sessions that aid individual player development in an integrated way, with a focus on goalkeeping techniques, and prepare honest, thoughtful and impactful content for Individual Player Reviews and Parent Reviews.
- Liaise with age group coaches and engage proactively within age group multi-disciplinary teams (MDT) to ensure clear communication and support for each goalkeeper, including consistent communication on programme logistics via the club's communication app (Teamworks).
- Lead delivery of the Academy Goalkeeper Coaching Programme across the Foundation Phase, including purposeful pre-match and in-game coaching on match days.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the Foundation Phase Goalkeeper Curriculum and deliver sessions that stretch and challenge goalkeepers while developing their love and passion for the role.
- Proactively support Foundation Phase goalkeepers within team training sessions and assist with goalkeeper coaching sessions across the pathway as required.
- Contribute to talent identification processes and evenings across the season as required, and systematically log and record training sessions via the Football Intelligence Platform (Kitman Labs).
- Support the Lead Schoolboy Goalkeeper Coach with honest and meaningful feedback on player performance and progression in player and parent review meetings, contribute proactively to Goalkeeper Department and Goalkeeper MDT meetings
- And reflect on individual player performance and potential to aid decision-making in succession planning meetings.
Required Experience & Qualifications

- UEFA B Goalkeeper Coaching Licence.
- UEFA B Coaching Licence.
- Up‑to‑date Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF) Certificate through The FA.
- Up‑to‑date FA Safeguarding Children Certificate.
