HMRC is seeking a Chief Security Officer to lead on security and data protection (GDPR) strategic vision, direction, and budget, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives. The role involves providing strategic and operational leadership to HMRC’s Security Function (circa 400 personnel) and overseeing the operations and strategic direction of a Fraud Prevention Centre (circa 100 personnel).
Key responsibilities include:
- Adopting a proactive stakeholder management strategy both internally and across government.
- Establishing and maintaining HMRC’s security program to protect information assets, technology, applications, systems, infrastructure, and processes.
- Contributing to overall CDIO policy making and strategy for infrastructure and application services.
- Leading, motivating, developing, and appraising team members to build an effective security culture.
Essential Criteria
- Professional Expertise & Standards: Deep understanding of information security principles, technologies, and control frameworks, evidenced by relevant academic qualifications and professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent.
- Executive Security Leadership: Proven strategic leadership in managing security, risk, and compliance across large-scale IT environments.
- Technical Authority & Innovation: Extensive technical expertise across multiple domains of security and compliance, with the ability to make high-impact decisions.
- Strategic Influence & Stakeholder Management: Exceptional influencing, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Organisational Change & Vision: Experience in anticipating and preparing for major organisational or technological shifts.
- Team Leadership & Development: Proven ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing teams across multiple locations.
This role is open to public sector and private sector candidates and would suit someone with experience in large scale organisations. Your work will impact millions of citizens and businesses across the UK and abroad.
