Leading a mature multi cloud platform (AWS + Google Cloud) in a high impact public sector digital team. This hands on interim role owns cloud strategy, engineering standards and developer experience through a secure, automated and self service infrastructure. This position requires someone who can provide real impact, quickly to improve reliability, security and delivery speed for critical services, using multi cloud at scale across AWS and Google Cloud providing the solid foundations to optimise and evolve.

As an interim this role will have genuine influence over setting standards, shaping architecture and strengthening governance and requires someone with modern engineering values in security, sustainability and cost transparency.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Owning the cloud platform roadmap across AWS & GCP (architecture, landing zones, IAM, networking, governance).
  • Building and improving automation and self-service (IaC, CI/CD, platform tooling) to speed up safe delivery.
  • Setting engineering standards for security, resilience, performance and cost, working closely with cyber/security colleagues.
  • Coaching and leading senior engineers, raising quality through mentoring, reviews and pragmatic ways of working.
  • Partnering with product and delivery teams to unblock, advise and land platform improvements that stick.

The right candidate must have:

  • Lead cloud/platform engineering experience in a complex environment, with strong AWS plus solid working knowledge of GCP (governance, IAM, networking, landing zones).
  • Track record designing for security, resilience and cost and making it real through controls and automation.
  • Hands on with IaC and delivery automation (e.g., Terraform, CI/CD, pipelines/tooling).
  • Confident communicator and coach—able to influence architecture and ways of working.
