The Network Security Specialist – L1 is responsible for network/firewall deployments, firewall policy configurations and troubleshooting related incident tickets. They will work closely with all members of the IT Operations team to continuously build, operate and ensure the integration, manageability, availability and security of systems and applications.

Your responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for network and firewall operations, monitoring and configuration especially ACLs and FW policies.
  • Deploy network and firewall equipment for data centers and offices.
  • Perform hardware and software upgrades for network and firewall equipment.
  • Handle and prioritize tickets related to issues with network and VPN access and performance.
  • Work on special network and firewall projects as assigned from time to time.
  • Utilize ‘Systems Thinking’ to understand interdependencies both within the IT Network and Infrastructure, and throughout Global Relay’s interests.
  • Work closely with Operations and Development teams to identify, troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct system related issues as they arise.
  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives as well as selection, installation, operationalising, and ongoing support of infrastructure enhancements.
  • Provide support to business users and key stakeholders as needed.
  • Participate in the creation of documentation including runbooks, how‑to user guides, technical how‑to support guides and Method of Procedures (MoP).
  • Support and evolve the monitoring and reviewing of system dashboards and critical alerts to ensure system issues are identified, escalated, and addressed as quickly as possible.
  • Provide support for all Systems Administration, escalated incidents or problem related items.

About you:

  • 1‑3 years’ experience in Network and Firewall administrator capacity.
  • Experience in configuring firewall policies and ACLs on network devices.
  • Experience provisioning, maintaining, and supporting enterprise and data centre networks, firewalls, VPNs and related dependencies.
  • Experience configuring Aruba, Juniper, or Fortinet equipment would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Aruba wireless systems and ClearPass would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in automation, coding and scripting for network and firewall appliance would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with troubleshooting & resolving complex technical problems, management reporting, and documentation (how‑to, processes and procedures, MoP).
  • Proven ability to self‑manage and balance assigned work delivering as scheduled.
  • Experience with OpenSource software and/or service‑management tools and applications (OpenStack, OpenShift, Zabbix, JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, etc.).
  • Good understanding of network protocols including TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, FTP, ARP, ICMP, MPLS, BGP, EVPN, VXLAN, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently in an effective and organised manner in a complex and challenging environment.
  • Adaptability to work with multiple teams on projects with varying degrees of flexibility/rigidity at different points in the development cycle.
  • Solid experience working in an environment with formally structured IT Operational processes (work request ticket management, incident management, change management, problem management, etc.).
  • ITSM Framework certifications such as ITIL, Sigma, SIAM or Methodology certifications such as Agile, Scrum, DevOps are considered a definite asset.

Working conditions: Must be available after hours and/or weekends for emergency related work, service impacting incident resolution, or maintenance that is required during maintenance windows (outside of regular business hours).
