We are currently looking for a Purchasing Assistant to work for one of our clients based in Burton on Trent. The client is a market-leading manufacturer of specialist equipment to a range of industry sectors including heavy engineering and aerospace. Due to the specialist nature of the products, the work is both interesting and will include assisting with all aspects of the purchasing function.

Working closely with colleagues and suppliers, the main duties will include:

  • Dealing with suppliers to obtain quotes for materials and goods
  • Ensuring that quotes are competitive and in line with budgets
  • Sourcing alternative suppliers where necessary
  • Placing orders with suppliers
  • Maintaining a supplier database
  • Progressing orders with suppliers to ensure that goods are received in a timely manner to prevent manufacturing delays
  • Working with the engineering and manufacturing functions within the business to foresee and prevent any potential delays to manufacturing
  • General purchasing administration

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working in a similar role, preferably in an engineering or manufacturing environment and will have experience in some if not all of the following:

  • Buying/purchasing
  • Expediting
  • Purchasing administration
  • Supplier liaison/management
  • Order placement
  • Sourcing suppliers
  • Obtaining quotes

In addition, applicants will need to be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel etc) and will ideally have some experience of working with a CRM and/or SAP/ERP system.
