Due to continued growth, new contracts and an extensive pipeline of work, Ireland’s Main Contractors have an exciting opportunity for a Planner to join their team working on a wide variety of projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and a strong background in civil engineering/construction projects. This role will be based in the Newry or Belfast office with flexibility to travel to sites as required. Upon successful completion of probation, working 1-2 days from home will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Develop clear and accurate tender-stage construction programmes and supporting narrative submissions in coordination with the estimating team under tight deadlines.
- Produce and maintain detailed construction schedules using industry-standard tools (MS Project, Primavera P6; Asta Powerproject advantageous).
- Break down project scope into work packages, activities, and sequences aligned with project deliverables.
- Monitor progress against baseline programmes and maintain accurate schedule updates.
- Identify deviations from plan and carry out critical path analysis.
- Coordinate with project managers, site teams, and subcontractors to validate programme information.
- Chair and support regular progress meetings to review timelines, delays, and corrective actions.
- Identify scheduling risks and develop mitigation strategies to protect programme delivery.
- Assess the impact of scope changes, delays, and unforeseen events on time and cost.
- Prepare and present reports including Gantt charts, S-curves, dashboards, and programme updates.
- Communicate key schedule metrics and forecasts clearly to stakeholders and clients.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in planning and scheduling practices.
- Contribute to lessons learned and process improvements across projects.
Requirements
- Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or related discipline.
- 3–5+ years’ experience in planning and scheduling within the construction industry.
- Experience working on medium to large-scale construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, methodologies, and resource planning.
- Familiarity with Irish construction standards, regulations, and delivery practices.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, and/or Asta Powerproject.
- Understanding of key project controls principles (critical path method, earned value analysis).
Salary: £65K – £75K neg DOE
