The Role
The Merchantware and Semi‑integrated platform is developed and maintained by our Technology Solutions team based in Belfast. The platform is responsible for handling millions of card payment transactions each day for our customers who range from small businesses up to 70,000‑seater NFL stadiums. Throughput and resilience are paramount to sustaining our 100% uptime.
As an Engineer Manager you will be responsible for multiple teams, driving them through the full life‑cycle analysis, design, development, and testing of the Global Payments Integrated software, including security and performance aspects. You will apply best practices as well as providing support and mentoring to the teams. The role does not require hands‑on coding but the ability to read and understand code is essential.
Key responsibilities
- Manage multiple engineering teams to deliver on various Global Payments product lines
- Establish technical direction across the organization with a sound and pragmatic approach to delivering the highest quality software at the fastest possible velocity
- Work with Product Architects to ensure engineering efforts are delivering the correct product requirements
- Work with Leadership to define best practices and ensure they are being adhered to
- Coordinate with Delivery to ensure efforts are being planned, prioritised, executed, and reported against
- Manage dependencies, resolve issues, and highlight risks ahead of team to maximise the product flow of the engineering teams
- Ensure our high quality standards are maintained for artifacts produced at all stages of the SDLC, from analysis to release with particular emphasis on testing
- Triage production issues to understand root causes and prioritise technical debt
- Realise the potential of every engineer through excellent leadership, support and mentoring
- Conduct 1‑2‑1s, performance reviews and career management with team members
Position Requirements
- 2+ years of experience leading or managing teams
- 8+ years of software development experience
- Experience designing and implementing scalable solutions in an Object Oriented language (C#, Java)
- Experience with relational databases (SQL Server or related)
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organisational skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum, or Lean/Kanban environment
- Degree in Computer Science or a similar
- Hybrid working model
- Eligible to work in the UK on a permanent and full‑time basis
Preferred
- Knowledge of payment processing, PCI standards and information security
- Experience working in a Windows .NET environment
