What you will be doing:
At Global Payments, we build the technology that handles billions in payments each year. This is the core of our business. We want to make it easier for our teams to build great products and get them into the hands of our customers faster. This role will lead the Integrated Payments team who deliver software that runs our terminals and payment gateway system itself. It's an end to end role that will own the process started by receiving a message from the point of sale, through reading the card and pin to processing the messages on the payment gateway before sending the transactions downstream to the acquiring banks systems. We need someone who will lead & motivate our internal and off-shore engineering teams, to continuously evolve the technology and our processes to deliver on the needs of our customers. This position requires a solid technical background with great leadership qualities.
What will you be responsible for:
- You will lead, motivate and mentor a team of experienced engineers of all types who are creating innovative solutions and products.
- You will be the technical owner of a number of platforms in our Integrated Payment space which serve hundreds of thousands of merchants and processes 10s of billions in payments each year.
- You will lead the Belfast site, working with supporting organisations like finance, HR, facilities and IT to support the Engineering team members.
- You will lead the delivery of quality software solutions for our Product roadmap.
- Setting and enforcing code and test quality standards.
- Challenging estimates and technical solutions.
- Ensuring the delivery sprint commitments within releases.
- Ownership of metrics for performance - e.g. cycle time, code coverage, build failures, team efficiencies.
We do things right and challenge the status quo; you will drive the adoption of best in class, large scale software development and delivery disciplines including: Agile, DevOps, Continuous Delivery, Continuous Integration practices such as branching strategy, etc. Test strategies such as BDD/TDD, quality frameworks, test automation, etc.
We’re a collaborative bunch; you’ll work closely with all parts of the organisation. Working with our Security team to ensure compliance to policies, guidelines, processes and technology controls with an emphasis on streamlining these to maintain fast feedback loops. Liaising with our Architecture team on the product roadmap, development issues, application architecture, etc. to ensure priorities are correct for speed of delivery. Liaising with our Product Management to ensure the product roadmap fits with the IT delivery strategy, e.g. user stories, incremental approach, etc.
What qualities you will bring:
- Technical Expertise: Strong technical background with 15+ years in software development roles. In-depth understanding of agile, CI/CD and DevOps principles. Broad exposure to development tools used for Agile development. Demonstrated experience in owning a high performance, highly scalable and highly reliable system, ideally but not required to be in the financial or payment space.
- Leading, Planning & Delivery: Experience in a management and mentoring role, 5+ years. Experience in managing a geographically diverse department of ~100 contributors. Demonstrated experience in building a strong outcome focused culture. Previous experience of implementing DevOps and CI/CD with full understanding of best practice. Strong application process flow and problem solving techniques. Outstanding analytical skills, self-motivated, high performing and goal oriented. Excellent knowledge of the metrics required to steer an effective engineering team.
- Innovation: Ability to innovate by challenging the status quo and come up with imaginative ways of doing things more effectively.
- Communication Skills: High levels of software engineering literacy and communication skills to engage and motivate engineering teams across development & quality assurance disciplines. Strong customer focus and ability to think about the impact of actions on the customer.
It also helps if you have: Working experience of our Application stacks (primarily C# & MSSQL Or C++ on payment terminals).
