The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust Hospital is inviting applicants to apply for a consultant geriatrician post in the Department of Health Services for Elderly People (HSEP) at the Hampstead site. The successful applicant will be joining a group of 9 dynamic, forward-looking consultants to deliver high-quality care for older patients. Applicants will be expected to have suitable experience in Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine (GIM). On call is for acute geriatric medicine on a 1 in 10 basis.
There is also a commitment to teaching and educationally supervising medical students. This role will be predominantly focused on delivering a consultant-led liaison service to frail and complex patients on the HSEP ward and developing our frailty liaison service. Clinical supervision and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level will also be an important aspect of this role. The appointee will work closely and in partnership with our Acute Medicine colleagues as well as the wider multidisciplinary team.
This is a replacement consultant post, based at our Hampstead site. The successful applicant will deliver and develop high-quality care for older patients in several different clinical settings. The appointee will deliver a consultant-led liaison service to frail and complex patients on the medical admission units, providing comprehensive geriatric care. The appointee will undertake ward rounds, conduct board rounds and multidisciplinary meetings. The appointee will be responsible for ensuring timely discharge planning for older patients and will support the training of junior doctors. Development of sub-specialty interests is encouraged.
Responsibilities include carrying out teaching, examination, and accreditation duties, and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education activity. Provision of equitable leave cover for HSEP consultant colleagues and participation in clinical audit and in continuing medical education are also required. The appointee will work closely and in partnership with our acute medicine and specialty colleagues.
Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register for Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine or be within 6 months of obtaining Certificate of Completion of Training or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
