Responsible to: UK Geospatial Lead
Job Purpose: Design, develop, and maintain geospatial web-based applications, tools, and services. Perform data management and engineering, geospatial analysis and data modelling, to support offshore wind and energy projects. Assist with proposal writing, group marketing, R&D and technical development in accordance with Global Maritime’s quality management system.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work across multidisciplinary teams to define application requirements and specifications.
- Drive the full-stack development of web applications with contributions in the front-end, using geospatial (e.g. ESRI JavaScript SDK) and non-geospatial libraries (e.g. Tabulator, Plotly), and back-end (Python with Flask).
- Produce clear and reusable code and documentation within GitLab.
- Contribute to automated application testing and coordinate user tests.
- Support the maintenance of a containerised (Docker) environment.
- Ensure high performance, scalability, and security of geospatial applications.
- Build and optimise spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SpatiaLite).
- Perform spatial and 3D analysis, data management and spatial planning/design of infrastructure.
- Participate in engineering, consultancy, and advisory projects.
- Implement and support the use of mapping, charting and data analysis libraries by the wider Geospatial Team (e.g., ESRI Javascript SDK, Leaflet, OpenLayers, pandas, plotly).
- Automate geospatial workflows using primarily Python (ArcPy and open-source tools e.g. GDAL, Rasterio, GeoPandas).
- Stay updated with emerging trends in geospatial technology and open-source tools.
- Work collaboratively within an integrated geoscience team comprising cable engineering, engineering geology, geophysics and geotechnical disciplines.
- Interface with other Business Streams within Global Maritime.
- Write technical notes and contribute to reports.
- Assist in the marketing of Global Maritime.
Specific Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geography/GIS/Geospatial Technology, Geomatics, or another related discipline. Master’s degree considered advantageous.
- Initial experience in the geospatial field, with experience in marine environments, renewable energy, and geology considered advantageous.
- Member of a professional institution and working towards Chartered status (or equivalent) considered advantageous.
- Working ability in a range of geospatial tools (e.g., Esri Platform, QGIS, Global Mapper).
- Competency in Python, Javascript, SQL, HTML and CSS.
- Experience with geospatial libraries (ArcPy, GDAL, GeoPandas, Shapely).
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
