We are looking to recruit an experienced Submarine Cable Installation Engineer with offshore submarine installation engineering and vessel based work within vessel operations. This role will play a crucial part within the Global Marine Group, and involves working within the Engineering and Project Delivery team. The main objective is to lead the successful delivery of technical work scopes which will include cable installation (shore‑end and offshore) activities and wider engineering projects, whilst working within the defined company process.
To achieve this you will work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders (including project sub‑contractors) to ensure effective utilisation of resources enabling the project requirements to be met. This role requires representation of the project team both onshore and offshore, nationally, and internationally. The Global Marine Group offers flexible working locations with various offices in the UK, including Chelmsford, Portland, and Washington (UK).
Key Deliverables- Sales and Proposals: Provide technical expertise at the bid phase of a project, developing winning and achievable technical, commercial and financial solutions. This includes review and assessment of relevant tender documentation (e.g. Technical Specifications) and available data to ensure installation risks are considered from project inception.
- Pre Installation: Technical lead for shore end related sub‑contracts. This will include management of these sub‑contractors during all phases of the project. Review and assess Route Position Lists and survey data, ensuring installation risks and challenges are captured and mitigations implemented. Co‑ordinate the development of project procurement including the preparation of provisioning/sub‑contracting scopes of work, acting both as a Client and Contractor, and evaluate sub‑contractor’s proposals on a technical and commercial basis ensuring cost effective and technically compliant solutions are progressed. Co‑ordinate and develop project technical documentation as directed by the Project Engineering Manager or Project Manager (budgets, procedures, methodologies, drawings and operational storyboards, final reports etc.), ensuring each operation of a particular project has been carefully planned, documented and compliant with Company QHSE Policies. This includes the review of sub‑contractor documentation. Prepare and use quality documentation such as FAT plans and ITPs as required. Carry out detailed Project Risk reviews, ensuring that risks are mitigated as far as reasonably practicable and provide updates to the Project Manager for maintenance of the project risk register.
- Installation: Ensure operations undertaken comply with Global Marine's environmental and Health and Safety policy and ensure that all practical measures are taken to protect the environment, prevent pollution and conduct operations in safe and recognised methods. Act as Global Marine’s site/vessel representative at shore end landings and associated land‑based works on third party vessels on Global Marine owned or chartered vessels. Provide onsite/offshore engineering to support the Offshore Installation Manager as required, ensuring projects are delivered in a sound and safe manner in line with approved procedures. Raise Management of Change requests if/when required. Conduct operations with an awareness of project contractual and commercial implications. Monitor costs where appropriate to deliver work on/under budget. Oversee the mobilisation of vessels ensuring each vessel is fully equipped with required project equipment and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and readiness.
- Other Responsibilities: Support requests from across the Global Marine Group (e.g. input into proposals, cross functional working with other parts of the business). Promote continuous operational improvements through active contribution to lessons learnt. Mentor and support personnel (theory and practical support) when required. Report on project performance internally (and externally), as required, at frequent and regular intervals.
- 5+ years experience in offshore subsea installation engineering and vessel based work within vessel operations.
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Marine engineering or equivalent experience.
- Experience of planning, work package management and technical project management.
- Knowledge of the marine engineering industry, encompassing telecoms and or power cable installation and testing, including executing shallow water & offshore cable installation and shore end cable landings.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and a well proven ability to work with multi‑discipline, multi‑cultural teams.
- Results‑orientated individual with a desire to improve performance.
- Strong financial and commercial awareness.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Packages: MS Project, Word, Excel.
- Flexibility to travel nationally and internationally as required.
- Ideal: Ability to use AutoCAD.
- A willingness to challenge the status quo and drive through new ways of working.
- Able to work concisely under considerable pressure.
This role can be based in the Chelmsford, Washington (UK) or Portland office and follows a hybrid working arrangement.
