Few roles put you in the room where global industry leaders align on what it will actually take to transform their businesses for a low carbon future, and then build it. This is one of them. You will lead a portfolio of pre-competitive, execution-focused projects that no single company can deliver alone, working directly with senior teams across the global chemical industry and a broader ecosystem of customers, technology providers, infrastructure players, and investors to turn ambition into execution.

Location: Remote, Europe-based. Expect roughly 20% travel, primarily to Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Expected experience: a mid/senior profile with 10+ years of relevant experience.

About the Global Impact Coalition

The Global Impact Coalition (GIC) is an Association that incubates pre-competitive projects to accelerate the chemical industry’s transition to a low-carbon and circular economy. Incubated at the World Economic Forum, GIC brings together major petrochemical and adjacent companies to de-risk projects that no single company can advance alone. Our work is organised around four strategic pillars: replacing fossil feedstocks, decarbonising processes, accelerating circularity and building low-carbon competitive advantage.

About the role

The Project Lead is responsible for shaping and driving GIC’s full project portfolio, from originating new ideas through to execution and spin-out. Current work includes PFAS destruction, waste-to-methanol, and waste to-pyrolysis oil, but the role is equally focused on building the next wave of projects with members. A significant part of the role involves working directly with technical and commercial teams from member companies, bringing multiple stakeholders into the room, aligning priorities, and moving projects from concept to real outcomes. Between sessions, you will drive project development, engage key external partners, and ensure each initiative is positioned to deliver tangible value. This role requires a strong understanding of the chemical industry, both technically and commercially, and the ability to operate confidently with senior stakeholders across multiple organisations.

Main responsibilities

  • Build and develop tangible business cases from scratch, translating early-stage ideas into structured, investable opportunities.
  • Lead the development of GIC projects from concept to spin-out, ensuring clarity of scope, strong alignment, and consistent forward momentum.
  • Prepare clear go or no-go decisions early, based on sound judgement of technical, commercial, and strategic viability, along with the CEO and the Executive Committee.
  • Run frequent high-impact working sessions that align multiple companies and translate discussion into concrete next steps and deliverables.
  • Resolve key bottlenecks across commercial structure, sequencing, and contracting within a pre-competitive, antitrust-safe framework.
  • Develop and prioritize new project ideas that reflect where members see real conviction.
  • Support CEO and executive-level engagement with clear, concise materials that enable decisions.
  • Establish and leverage relationships across the wider industry ecosystem to strengthen projects and unlock accelerated execution.

Key Competencies

  • Strong understanding of the chemical industry, including how technical, commercial, and regulatory dynamics shape investment decisions.
  • Proven ability to build robust business cases and techno-economic models that translate early-stage concepts into viable opportunities.
  • Track record of developing and advancing multi-company or consortium-based initiatives in chemicals, energy, or adjacent heavy industry.
  • Experience working on capital-intensive projects from early development stages, with a clear view on what it takes to move toward investment decisions.
  • Practical knowledge of key industry themes such as feedstock transitions, process electrification, and circular value chains.
  • Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders, including C-suite and technical leadership, with the credibility to challenge and align.
  • Strong judgement in navigating multi-stakeholder environments, maintaining focus on real business outcomes while operating within appropriate competitive boundaries.
  • Ability to synthesize complex technical, commercial, and regulatory inputs into clear, decision-oriented materials.
  • Clear and concise communication, both written and visual, with strong command of tools such as PowerPoint and familiarity with AI-supported workflows.

This role is structured around a 12-month engagement cycle, aligned with GIC’s project delivery model, with a clear intention to continue and expand based on performance and portfolio development.
