Were recruiting for a Quality Control Lead to join a modern, recently refurbished food manufacturing site in Stornoway. This is a standalone quality role where youll take ownership of product quality, food safety and compliance across the factory floor and office. This is not a desk only quality role. Youll spend a large part of your day in the production environment, working closely with operations and being the first point of contact for quality on site. The role would suit someone who enjoys being visible in the factory, improving systems and really owning their area of responsibility. Youll be joining a small but well supported site with the opportunity to make a real impact by developing and improving processes, while being backed by a wider quality function.
Responsibilities:
- Acting as the main on site Quality point of contact for production and management
- Monitoring critical control points (CCPs), food safety and product quality throughout the manufacturing process
- Ensuring product specifications and customer standards are met during processing
- Carrying out scheduled audits including GMP, glass and hard plastics and walk-away standards
- Collecting product samples for microbiology and chemistry testing
- Investigating, recording and driving corrective actions for any non-conformances
- Completing Quality Control paperwork accurately and on time
- Maintaining and calibrating measurement and monitoring equipment
- Following all traceability, due diligence and quality procedures
- Escalating any quality or food safety risks immediately to the Factory Quality Manager
- Supporting the Factory Quality Manager and Head of Quality as required
- Standing in for the Factory Quality Manager when needed
- Being a visible presence on the factory floor and supporting the wider on-site quality team
What Were Looking For:
- At least 1 years experience in a Quality Control or Quality Assurance role within food manufacturing
- Good knowledge of food safety systems, CCPs and compliance standards (BRC or similar)
- Confident working in a factory environment and dealing with pressure in a fast paced operation
- Comfortable working between the office and production areas throughout the day
- A proactive, hands-on approach and the confidence to take ownership of the role
- Strong attention to detail and good written and verbal communication skills
- Able to prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a busy environment
- SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline preferred
- Good IT skills
- Must not have a shellfish allergy due to the nature of the products
- Willing to follow strict food safety and PPE rules (no make-up, nail polish, phones, jewellery etc).
Whats on Offer:
- Salary up to £42,000 depending on experience
- 33 days holiday per year
- 4% employee pension contribution with 4% employer match
- Life insurance (2x annual salary)
- A modern, well-invested site with strong operational support
- A role where you can genuinely shape and improve quality systems
