As our Commissioning Engineer BMS Controls you will be responsible for the testing, validation, and optimisation of Building Management Systems within mission-critical data centre environments. The role ensures that all mechanical and electrical systems are fully integrated, operate efficiently, and meet client specifications, design intent, and industry standards. You will play a key role during the commissioning phase, working closely with project teams, contractors, and clients to deliver high-quality, reliable systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Commissioning & Testing
- Execute Level 1β5 commissioning activities for BMS and controls systems
- Perform point-to-point checks, I/O verification, and functional testing
- Validate sequences of operation for HVAC, cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH), chillers, and AHUs
- Support integrated systems testing (IST) and seasonal testing
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues during commissioning
- System Integration
- Ensure correct integration between BMS, EPMS, SCADA, and third-party systems
- Verify communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, etc.)
- Coordinate with controls vendors and MEP contractors
- Documentation & Reporting
- Review design documents, control schematics, and sequences of operation
- Produce commissioning reports, test scripts, and issue logs
- Track progress and maintain accurate records of completed tests
- Support handover documentation and O&M manuals
- Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all systems meet project specifications and industry standards (e.g. ASHRAE, ISO)
- Follow commissioning plans and QA/QC procedures
- Participate in FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing)
- Client & Stakeholder Coordination
- Attend site meetings and coordinate with project stakeholders
- Provide technical support to clients during commissioning and handover
- Assist in training client operations teams
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of BMS platforms (e.g. Siemens, Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls, Honeywell)
- Understanding of HVAC systems and data centre cooling infrastructure
- Familiarity with data centre standards and critical environments
- Experience with control systems, sensors, actuators, and field devices
- Knowledge of communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP)
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Relevant certifications in BMS or commissioning (preferred)
- At least 3+ years in BMS/controls commissioning or similar role
- Experience working on data centres or other mission-critical facilities preferred
- Exposure to commissioning processes (Level 1β5)
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environments
- Detail-oriented with a focus on quality
Desirable
- Experience with Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
- Knowledge of energy efficiency and optimisation strategies
- Previous work on hyperscale data centre projects
This role is based in the UK (West London) and ideally you will be based within a 1 hour commute time.
