As a Senior Legal Counsel within the Global Blue Shift4 Legal Services Team, Europe, you will act as a trusted legal partner to the business, supporting Shift4’s continued growth across its expanding European operations. You will provide practical, risk‑aware and commercially focused legal advice, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant regulations in a dynamic fintech environment. You will work closely with sales, product, security, compliance and other cross‑functional teams, contributing directly to complex commercial negotiations across Shift4’s international operations.
Your responsibilities include:
- Strategic commercial advisory: Act as a trusted adviser to Shift4’s commercial businesses, providing proactive, business‑focused legal guidance to drive growth and innovation across European operations – including tax free shopping (TFS), acquiring, payment gateway, and dynamic currency conversion.
- Business support & daily legal operations: Support the Deputy General Counsels, Europe, in handling day‑to‑day legal enquiries from all European business units, delivering timely and practical solutions that enable commercial success.
- Commercial contracts & negotiations: Negotiate and draft a wide range of complex commercial contracts, including partnership and client agreements, ensuring effective risk management while advancing business objectives.
- Contract governance & external counsel management: Advise on contract management and oversee the efficient and cost‑effective use of external counsel to deliver high‑quality legal outcomes. Provide expert legal counsel on relevant regulatory frameworks, including financial services regulation, data protection and privacy, and other applicable frameworks relevant to TFS activities, safeguarding Shift4’s commercial and legal interests.
- Cross‑functional collaboration: Partner closely with commercial teams and internal stakeholders to support deal structuring and drive key initiatives across the European business.
- Global legal collaboration: Work in partnership with the global legal risk and compliance team (50+ professionals across North America, Europe, and APAC) to help build a respected, effective legal, risk and compliance function delivering high‑quality commercial legal advice in a complex international environment.

- Law degree.
- Minimum 5 years’ legal experience, ideally within the payments, TFS or fintech sector.
- Comprehensive background in corporate and commercial law, developed either at a distinguished law firm, or as part of an established in‑house legal department.
- Significant expertise in negotiating and drafting complex commercial contracts, ideally in fintech, TFS or payments environments.
- Solid knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks, including financial services and/or TFS‑related regulations, as well as data protection & privacy.
- Proven ability to manage external counsel and contract governance.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
- Fluent English (written and spoken). Additional language skills are a strong advantage.
